Dirt Cheap Indoor Flyer
Picked up this foamie glider at Wal-Mart and flew it in the Bedford Boys Ranch gymnasium the very next day. $3.94 plus tax.

Foamie Glider
GWS Direct Drive, GWS 3/2 prop, GWS 2A ESC, Cirrus CS-10BB servos on rudder and elevator, GWS single conversion RX, and seven 300 mAh NiMHs. And they said these things are for kids, HAH!

Ramw5p,
Here is a photo of the RX and rudder servo. The ESC is above and slightly forward of the receiver. If I can find any more photos, I'll post them. The battery pack gets shoved into a hole on top of the fuselage immediately in front of the wing L/E at the root. I had to build an extension to run from the ESC to the battery. The CG is one inch forward of the wing T/E at the root. Wind over 10 mph will be a problem. Under that... lots of fun. DNA, I know how to find out if the EDF will work! Frank, See the PM I sent you, or e-mail me at sr71afan@yahoo.com Gary |

Here, you can see (left to right) the servos, ESC(in the hole on top), extension, motor, and battery. To run the wires, simply cut some slots with a new number 11 blade, and push them down into the slot with the edge of a piece of 1/16 balsa. The wires almost dissappear. Cut the hole for the battery in the same manner, and dig out the foam with flat-nosed pliers.
Hope this helps. Gary |

EDF
I am thinking of using your setup..just to darn simple-and effective. THE Q: would you be able to attatch to gws edf's to the wing..scale local...and make it fly?? I assume that you would need to reinforce the wing with a dowel or seomething like it runnning the length of each wing...hmmmmmmm..just might have to try!

Fans on the Cheapie?
Ramw5p,
I'm quite certain the fans would work. I haven't tried them on this plane for two reasons: 1. I wanted to keep the wings removeable, and 2. The fans would be the first things to hit the ground, if they were in an airline-type position on pylons under the wings. Could put 'em on the back, like an A-10, but it's already kinda crowded back there. GO FOR IT, and post some pictures here, please. Happy flying. Gary My photos |

That's so cool and simple Gary, makes you wonder why no one else had done it before. Hats off to you.
Now for the technical stuff, what's the wing loading you're getting with this plane that seems to make this power plant work for you? |
