Make your own people?!
OK, this has potential, especially for someone who has the time to deal with 3D mesh models:
http://www.instructables.com/id/Turn...Action-Figure/ Basically: 1. Take a bunch of pictures of something (or someONE); 2. Use free software to generate 3D models of the subject from the many 2D photos; 3. Use more free software, as necessary, to clean up the resulting mesh model; 4. 3D print as many figures as you like, using a service like Shapeways. Now, I've complained before about the resolution of 3D printed items... but it's getting better... and Shapeways has an option called "Ultra Detail" which is about as good as it gets... and I think with some processes like tumble deburr (a rock polisher), you may get rid of the stratification lines altogether. So, find someone who can dress in the right period costume, have them hold real still in the desired pose, and take a bunch of pix! |

I can dig it! Its amusing to think about all the new technology available to us nowadays isnnt it?
I kinda like the results of that picture there. Looks like it was widdled and carved out of wood. Which.. depending the look you are going for can be a good thing. Of course... the same technique could be used for just about anything you need modeled. Use the print out for a mold positive, and proceed as normal. |

And with technology, we can even duplicate posts!

I know right? I was posting that off my smart phone, something farted and I put up a duplicate post, went to go fix it, the wife called, and the browser crashed!
good times.. good times... checking my Email here, and it looks like your post is part of my regular instructable digest... I'll be reading it here in a moment. |

Make your own people?!.. No big deal, my wife and I did that three times already... Like many things the creative part was fun, but the project has been dragging on for 18 years now..
Come to think about it, that's how long most of my projects seem to take |

Oops, sorry Pat, I didn't mean to hijack the thread. I actually did bookmark the link, as I haven't yet got suitable 1:32 scale people for my sardine carrier.

1/24 is another scale that is hard to find decent figures for boats. That is the last thing I am going to attempt when I get there. Have to figure out how to make many people in different poses. Painting some of the same figures in different colors is one way. And placing them on different parts of the boat.
