Gaui Hurricane EP425 any good?

Flying-hobby is selling it for $59, one day deal. Is it worth it?
I mean is the build good?

I don't see many threads talking about it. I read in other forums that it can be converted to a 550 size heli. It will be cheaper than buying the Gaui 550 basic kit.

Trying to fly on the cheap!
It is basically a Hurricane 550 with shorter boom and belt.

You can easily convert it to 550 by changing boom, belt and tail pushrod.

I have one and like it alot

Just keep in mind that the kit on flying-hobby does not include any electonics or blades.

Thank you for your reply.

Is the stock build good? Do I have to change or upgrade anything?

It works out of the box. I changed the bell cracks to the cnc version to remove the offset required in the stock build, but that just makes the build easier (not by much, but I like it).

I forgot to mention, no pinions included on the kit either.

Thank you again for your info.

What is the part number for the cnc bell cracks?

When you said that the 425 is actually a 550 but with shorter boom and belt
does that mean the frame and head is the same as the one in the gaui 550 kit? or is there any difference?

Because I will rely on Finless Bob videos for building the gaui 550.

Also to make it 550 size,do I only need this part "Tail Boom Conversion Set(with Belt 572XL) for 550L Blade" #204663
and 550mm blades. Right? or is there anything else like the tail blades?

I appreciate your help.

mosca.br has got my attention in regards to the "stretched" Gaui EP425 to a 550.

Do you have pics and what is the flight performance like?

ath512 - there isnt much info on the little Gaui 425 it seems. Good luck with your build .

Yes. The the head and frame are the same as the standard 550 kit. You can even use standard sized servos in the 425.

I think the tail boom conversion set will be enough, but I'll probably end up replacing my tail blades with kbdd tail blades since I like orange tail blades Just pick your 550 blades carefully, as the bolt that holds the main blades is 3mm on the plastic grips, and keep the headspeed below 1900rpm (unless you upgrade to metal grips).

You can see a full list of parts for the 425/550 here:
http://www.gaui.com.tw/html-en/produ..._550_parts.htm

The cnc levers are #204612 and #204614. I believe you only need #204614, as the aileron and pitch levers have holes to remove the offset already.

This is my 425. Running a Scorpion HK 3026-1210kv on stock gears, and 16 tooth pinion. With an Castle ICE 75 esc, and Spektrum 821 servo's. Has Infinity Hobby $29 carbon 430mm blades.

I like it as a 425. I did buy the 550 stretch kit, and blades but have not used them. My stretched 550 was a little faster on top end, and a little slower on cyclic. The 550 tail rotor blades, and canopy are longer.

I do most of my gaui shopping on allerc.com, flying-hobby.com and infinity-hobby.com (in that order). I also order from readyheli and helidirect (they don't carry a lot of gaui stuf anymore) and I heard hobby-lobby.com also caries gaui now.

I got my 425 kit at IRCHA this year. My current setup is:

Cyclic - S9650s
Tail - GY401/S9257
Motor - Scorpion 3026-1400 / 13T Pinion
ESC - Castle Creations Ice 100 lite
Main Blades - Prod 3D 430mm
Tail Blades - Outrage 550 82mm (upgraded for more tail authority)

I REALLY like it. Very nice upgrade from the Blade 400 that I had been flying before. This size is great, because I can swap the batteries back and forth with the blade. I run 1 - 3S 2200 mah lipo on the Blade, or run 2 in series (for 6s) on the Gaui.

Here's a link to some pictures:

https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...3#post13093113

I've upgraded ESC and the batteries since the initial build. The 50 amp Ice was not up to the task. I'm pulling 90 amps on full collective manuvers! So, I'm running a the 100 Amp lite version now along with 30C batteries. Also, here is a flight video. Not doing anything special because I still have A LOT to learn, but it sure is fun!

I am waiting for blades to arrive so I can finish the conversion.

It is currently still running as a 425.

You can read more about my build here:

It is nexgen's thread, but I got my kit from him...

And, by the way, I love my Hurri 550 (550mm blades). You should just get it.

Agreed.
Probably the easiest to build, rock-solid flying 500-Class Heli I've flown.
Gobs of power on the stock 6s setup... really can't say enough about it.
