Amazing work, Paul!
Especially the low total weight really sounds very promising!! Will the gimbal also be available as a 2-axis version? Would be great as I do not need the pan - and would like to save that weight. |

We will let you know about the two axis only. Our next test will be for tilt and roll as we are waiting on some parts for pan. We will see how it looks. Stay tuned. |

Back to the vulcan.
The 1200mm is a monster to put in the car. While I'm still using the stock landing legs I have decided to remove them to make getting it in he car a little easier, but that means you have to remove 9 locking nuts which is a pain. So I made a quick mod that makes taken the legs off a little quicker.

Hi fly.
Personally I prefer the I configuration for orientation. I just like looking for the one arm whether its front or back for orientation. The only problem is my FOV is narrower in octo mode with stock legs when in "I" mode. How they differ performance wise I do not have a clue. If I was flying a hexa I would also go for the "I" especially if you are using the stock legs. In V you would have a narrower FOV because of the position of the legs as compared to the I configuration. |

We are using the 360 Pan kit on a AV200 gimbal (until yours is available for purchase!) Thinking I'll shrink wrap the "front" and "back" arm for orientation in 2 different colors. |

I think it all comes down to personal preference. I bet there are lots of owners who will only fly in V mode. Nice idea with the shrink wrap. Fluorescent spray would be lighter. When I get round to it I will be having white strip light on the front a red strip on the rear. Bit like head lamps and break lights. |

How do you guys travel with the 1200mm Octo? I fly a Vulcan V 1200mm Octo with an AV200 pankit and the monster needs an even more monstrous box. I'm getting a sturdy flight case done for travelling with and the dimensions are like 50" X 50" X 21"
The Octo as is was going a little right in my vehicle now with the box it'll not even fit my car, ill have to hire a bigger pickup or something when I'm travelling with this. Any suggestions guys to make it easier for travel? I definitely don't want to dismantle the Octo for travelling! Regards Adarsh |

I fly "V". For no real reason then that is what most customers request. "I" makes more sense for orientation purposes because it's more like Heli tailboom.
There is no easy way to travel with Multi's unless they break down or fold up. I'll have to get back to bugging Alex about making quick connect arms or simple fold up mounts. You can fold the Vulcan arms, its just putting the thru bolts back thru without the wires getting in the way is a pain (especially with 8). |

I think you have got to split the gimbal from the octo for travel. That box will be a nightmare. I'm going to build myself a large version of a folding wallpaper pasting table. If you do not know what it is. Here's what I'm on about. http://www.brooklyntrading.co.uk/p-4...ing-table.aspx I will make it to take the octo without stock LG, by the time I get around to it I will hopefully have a set of retracts. I will redesign where the legs for the table fit. This box will be able to go on the roof rack or inside the car. The good thing, I won't be catching the props on everything and when I'm at the flying location I will have a 8ft x 4ft (approx) table to work on. Gimbal, Tx and lipo's will be in a Peli. If for any reason I have to ship my octo on a plane, I think, with a couple of mods I could de rig my octo in ten minutes and put it back together in 20 minutes. I could then probably get it in my storm 2500 peli case or definitely the next one up. I must admit. It's not something I would like to do too often because of wear on cables and plugs. I suppose the obvious thing would be to buy a van. |

Paul,
I like the table / case idea. Hmmmm...a buddy of mine has the wood shop. If you need retracts you know how to email me. |

Carrying the octo in my vehicle is not a problem, but carrying it in the box is a huge problem. So I unwillingly decided today to remove 3 arms from my Octo for travelling. So I guess the box will be of size of 50" X 30" X 22"!! atleast I can put the box in my car to take it to the airport...
The box will be very sturdy flight case, last year I got a box made from wood for my MJ Helicam having dimenions of 65" X 24" X 28" and the box weighed around 35Kgs... With the heli, 2 radios and 8 6s lipos the box weighed around 65kgs. This time I'm planning to get it done in composite aluminum panel... Lets see how that goes... Any suggestions or tips for dismantling for travelling please??? Regards Adarsh |
