AeroMusicals at World Artistic Games
Hi all,
I got notice today that it is now official : AeroMusicals will be one of the sports invited at the World Artistic Games on late 2012/early 2013. Competitors will be invited, travel & in-country expenses paid, but a selection has to be made, either country by country or worldwide. It would help immensely if I knew which countries may be involved and which pilots may be interested participating in this World-level event. Please respond ASAP. Just a reminder : AeroMusicals is not the freestyle part of F3P but the official & exclusive designation for the FAI F6B class (indoor aerobatics to music) with different rules from F3P. The full rules are available in the pertinent FAI Sporting Code volume (F6) at http://www.fai.org/aeromodelling/documents/sc4 FAI guy |

Dear Guy,
As i understand this year it will be only promotion of this class not actual competition right? There is one talented kid in Lithuania, but for him alone making such trip is not possible im fried. So what happen with World Air Games, will it be held again? If yes when? |

The World Artistic Games are a true competitive event and SportAccord http://www.sportaccord.com/en/ (the entity uniting all the World's Sports Federations) wants the absolute 24 World best competitors there from as many countries as possible. If you win there, you'll get a World title and a Gold medal as well and it will be forever in FAI's competitions records. So we'll have to make sure the selected pilots are actually the best we can find. May I suggest your next international contest in Lithuania be used as selection for those pilots ? As for the young lad you mention, he just has to compete and show his value. From what I have been told, there are at this point two candidate organising countries (this is under negociation) and travel should not be a problem even for the younger pilot should he be accompanied by a parent. About World Air Games, as you should know the organising country will be known by end June/early July. All this will make 2013 a very busy year starting with the World Artistic Games (that includes sports from seven different Sports Federations including Gymnastics, Swimming, Cycling etc. ), the World Games in Cali, Colombia in August and the World Air Games in-between. Do you realize how much AeroMusicals stepped forward as a recognized sport since we started preparing the Turin World Air Games a few years ago (and since AeroMusicals was created in 2002) ? Dear Guy,
Thank you for clear update, im very glad work you put pay off and aeromodeling class get such recognition. Can you say where World Artistic Games might be organized? If its somewhere in Europe i think i will try to participate. Naturally its bit sad that its so far away, and 3 major events are so close in one year... For qualification contest we will see, running Lithuania championship and selection contest in one place might be to much for me to handle. If i do it i want to do it right, and selection contest is very time consuming. However i think its possible to run separate international selection contest. |

There are presently two countries in competition to organize the World Artistic Games. I don't know which ones, I was only told at least one of them had a strong aeromodeling activity. As for the time, as said elsewhere it will be either November 2012 or February to May, 2013. I guess we should know the final location rather soon. In any case, whether the Games take place in Europe, in America or in Asia (or elsewhere) is of little importance as the travel expenses as well as all the in-country expenses are taken in change by the host. Because the multi-sports events such as the World Artistic Games are designed to provide spectators and major media with sports that usually do not stay under floodlights, it is a fantastic opportunity for us to get model flying on major TV sports channels or even general interest channels worldwide. All this is part of a general trend to get rid of the exclusive dominance of very few sports such as football, soccer or golf. SportAccord are working very hard on this and the first multi-sports events organized this way have been extremely successful, so let's do our best to present aeromodeling at its best, the benefit will show to all facets of our activity. At your Open Nationals, may I suggest you simply run F3P-A + AeroMusicals ? I do not mention here the non-FAI classes such as "F3P-B" etc. which are not of concern to this purpose. This way, the pilots who may not have another opportunity to fly at international contests will have an opportunity to qualify for the World Artistic Games and it will also count towards World Air Games. As for yourself, I know you have other opportunities FAI guy |

Let me explain you : AeroMusicals has no World championship. Instead, it is part of what FAI calls "Prestige Events", in principle higher level than World championships. Because of the incredible success AeroMusicals had at the World Air Games in Turin, Italy, FAI decided to push the class for Prestige Events. So here we are now with 3 such events : 1) World Air Games (every odd year). Presently the World's top 12 pilots. 2) World Games (every 4 years). In 2013 AeroMusicals will be there as a demo event (just like new sports appear at Olympic Games) and, if proved satisfactory (for organisers and spectators' attractiveness) the event will then be fully integrated in the Games. 5 pilots will take part in 2013 including 2 US pilots. 3) World Artistic Games (I don't know the frequency) with the World's top 24 pilots. So for the World Games in Colombia, the nominated European pilots (it is still provisional, of course) are Fabien Turpaud, Martin Müller and Andres Leoni (it was meant to be the 3 medal winners from WAG 2009, but Donatas declined) and, as said, two US pilots to be nominated (provided they tell me they want to attend, otherwise the number will be completed with other top European pilots). For the World Air Games 2013, the selection process is the same as last time between May, 2011 and November, 2012. Selection contests, national or international. For the World Artistic Games, the pilots will be invited, based on their contest results or on nomination from their National Aero Club. Unless there are more Hungarian pilots at the same level or better than you, you are on the provisional list. Travel expenses as well as in-country expenses are paid by the organiser, so don't worry. For World Air Games and World Games, only the in-country expenses are paid for. I hope this is clear. At World Championships, any country is entitled to enter 3 pilots, usually the top 3 pilots from that country, but not necessarily World class. At Prestige Events, only the World's top pilots may enter, irrespective of the country, this is why it is higher level than World Championships. More info will come soon. As said earlier in this thread, the World Artistic Games are organised by SportAccord and another meeting with FAI is due to take place in the next 15 days. FAI guy |
