Spoke too Soon
This edit is to try to correct yesterdays posts of acusing RBYM of scamming. Sorry, that was premature. I am trying to edit and fix stuff that is accusatory in this thread to correct things and try to leave much of what is fact so the later comments make sense.
Yeah, I should have seen and heeded the many red flags, but didn't. So, this is my first time ever maybe getting ripped off online, but a learning experience. Here's what should have alerted me: 1. The seller's price was a little low for the item, a JR PCM 649Rx. 2. The seller did not post pics of the merchandise. 3. The seller had a trader rating of 0. 4. The seller had a history of many "For Sale " ads, just a few marked sold, but without a post from a buyer. 5. The seller requested buyer to pay paypal fees or send as gift. 6.The seller had an unverified paypal acct. Oddly, paypal has been putting temp holds on several of my transactions lately to reputable vendors, but with this transaction, the next day I checked and this one was completed before I wised up. Unfortunately the money is probably gone and I doubt if I can recover it, as the seller's acct is probably dry by now. So, beware of those red flags, guys! |

This is the ad on RC Groups. What was I thinking? (chuckling) I did initiate a dispute with paypal, however, from what I gather, even if the dispute gets any attention from them and paypal agrees with me, if the seller's acct is empty, paypal will not reimburse me. Correct? |

If you used a CC through PP you can get the CC company to refund you.....If you used funds either in your bank account or PP account, you may be outa luck.
Be glad it was only $26. It really sucks to learn this lesson with $200, $400, $1000 like so many others have. Always use PP, and even more important always use a CC through PP...(even better a prepaid CC) its the most protection you can have. |

Thanks, dd, and I did use my bank acct thru PP, but am switching to CC thru PP after this.
Yeah, losing a lot of money this way has gotta be no fun. |

So what happens when you try to call the phone number he is giving. Did a search and it pops up all over the net. Seems he uses it for other sites too. I don't know, this one for some strange reason hints that it may not be a scam so don't give up yet. Try calling. Of course I;ve been wrong before

It was on Monday - and it is now Wednesday... Monday was a Federal Holiday. Maybe a little fast to call a scam? How about a Negative Trader rating for now, you can edit the Trader rating later (to neutral?)
Again - a day and a half is a bit of a short time line to start blasting away with a SCAM SCAM SCAM thread, imho, although #5 and #6 are serious conditions to me. I don't see #4 as an issue by itself. By blasting away at him before you contest it through PP, you gave him advanced warning to clean out his haul of misbegotten riches - all $26 of them. The low $$ amount of the deal tends to make the scam harder to believe. Best of luck - |

I did another google search with phone number and "scam". Did see any smoking guns and in fact it would seem he is selling all over the place. I tend to agree with Jim on this one but understand your frustration. Send him a text message and keep calling. Rare for scammers to give phone numbers but could be a pre-paid I suppose. Best of luck.

I see that he logged in yesterday... Have you tried sending him another PM? or perhaps sending him message on his email as well... Just a thought...
Good luck... |

Being logged in does not necessarily mean he's "on" RCGroups, does it?

Yeah, I was kind of hesitant to call SCAM, but look at all the evidence to point that it is just that. It being a low $$ amount did lower my guard, maybe that's another reason I missed the red flags, but $26 is still $26. Maybe targeting big $$$ items is becoming less successful?
Never said I haven't initiated a dispute with PP. I did initiate a dispute yesterday with PP, still no communication from the seller through them, either. |

Brick and mortar stores might be the best for you.Quote:
So within two business days, you have filed a PP dispute and then came here to call another member a scammer? Do I have that timeline right? Please redact those comments about the seller and take about 100 steps back. Patience is in order no? Two days. Think about it. Know how many buyers take more than two days to pay for something? Do you see sellers starting threads calling them scammers, deadbeats etc? How many times are these threads started where the OP does themselves more harm than good. Very few red flags noted. The biggest one I see so far might be impatience on your part. No excuses for the seller here, chances are he has e-mail and account access here since he was logged in earlier. And I would tend to say when you are logged in your have access to PM etc. Many if not all of these issues are caused by a lack of calm, reasoned, and timely communications. |

and hold off on feedback until things get resolved. Why jump the gun there too?

How come none of the issues you posted about made you question the transaction?
I too agree it is too soon to judge, but it does not look good... IMHO there are too many dam fine sellers out their to take the risk on this seller, especially considering all the bullet points you made below. Quote:
