Yeah, that is why I prefer to have my fingers on the sticks when I step on the pedal to launch my plane. It was that split second between letting the plane go and getting my fingers to the radio that made the difference. It didn't help that there was a gust of cross wind just as I let it go. The other issue was that I would just release it rather than giving it a little throw. I think a toss would have made a difference but I opted for a ramp and pedal instead. No issues since.

Evader
Sometimes when I get to the field I'm the only one there. I pound in a couple of stakes on the Jetapult, hook 'er up and with both thumbs on the sticks I'm ready for whatever comes up, weather or electromechanical. Learning to fly a closer-in pattern with this little composite has been challenging for me coming from 127mm jets. .

I dont have any issues launching it without a ramp but I guess it does give you extra insurance.
Personally, it's just one extra item I dont want to have to carry with me to the field. |

If you look closer it gets more rpm in the same fan because its a bigger motor and doesnt load up as much!
granted the specs are for 60mm fan however the hyperflow does have wider blades than the alfa so, 4800kv 52,000rpm hyperflow 53,000rpm alfa 4400kv 56,000rpm alfa should pull a few more rpm in the hyperflow aswell. I also might try a cut down alfa rotor in the HF housing just for $#!t's and giggles |

Hey guys, I picked up an Evader and had a questions. After my first two flights I was pretty comfortable so I decided to push it on my third flight (a week later). So I took it up and after 1.5 minutes the fan cut out. I was top speed and dead sticked in to the runway HOTTT. (This was modified to fit landing gear).
So this is what I've gathered: I was 500 MA into the flight. ~500 watts. ~43 AMPS. Maximum low voltage at 14.55v. I'm running a 40 amp Hacker ESC. 14.5 minimum volts on a 4 cell is acceptable. That leaves the stock MOTOR. According to the specs (below) of the motor, they don't seem right for the application. Max constant current 25 AMPS? really?? Max current watts 278 Watts?? . Can someone tell me what I'm missing here? Or what motor I need to buy for a direct fit. kV Rating: 3790 rpm/V Weight: 3.6oz (101g) Input Voltage: 7.4-14.8V Max. Constant Current: 25A Max. Surge Current: 50A Max. Constant Watts: 278W No Load Current: 1.7A Thanks. |

OK guys, I'm still resolving the quality issues with Tower Hobbies but things are going well so far.
I decided not to wait for them to send me a new one so I purchased an additional one which I received early today. I would like to start with covering some of the changes on the Hyperflow fan: Picture #1 - The new Hyperflow EDF housing + AFT cone, as you can see by the picture that there is no alignment guides to trim out (pain in the A$$) and the stator extention is desgined into the unit + they added mounting tabs. Picture #2/3 - The new style Hyperflow rotor , as you can see by picture #2 that the center is different due to the new style shaft adpt, also if you look at picture #3 you can see that the blade tips on the new rotor are a bit wider. Over all the unit looks of better quality (a lot like the wemotec units), even the material it was molded apears to be different instead of that cheap looking plastic. I am very pleased and think that they should eliminate the old one from the evader kit replacing it with the new style (but we shell see once I put all together). I would also like to add that I'm really starting to feel the need to install Dons Wicked 4400KV motor as I cant find anything to match it so I'm going to order it tomorrow (that shouldnt stop me from starting the build as I'm going to have the option on removing the edf unit when I feel). |

Hey if enough of us want them maybe Don can get some 4800-5000kv special wind plus motors? that would really kick it up!
The new fan looks pretty good i like the adapter change, Wonder if it sounds better with wider blade tips? couple more amps? Here is a couple pics of my power system with a cut down alfa 5 blade, I will run it up on the meter tomorrow. Edit: cant get the upload window to open to post pics |

Just came home after doing 3 flights, during those flights I noticed that I was having to add a click here and there on the ailerons, on the ground I noticed that I had about 1-2mm play so I removed the wing to inspect the jet and noticed that the z-bend had worn out the torque rod horns (will have to replace them), I also decided to further inspect the jet since I already have the wing off and found that the bracket that supports the elevator tube guides broke off right at the glue joints (will have to reglue with real epoxy).
It should be law to use epoxy on bulkheads, brackets, spars (the funny part is that when you build/assemble a model, they always note to the modeler what type of glue to use on a particular step of the build/assembly in the manual but when it comes to manufacturing they use the wrong type for the application). |
