Elevator +/- 12 deg, rudder L/R 18 deg.

I fly currently CG @102mm. If you have rearward CG you might want to reduce elevator movements. Rudder is quite powerful with these settings.

Wing is about the same as with x-tail fuse. The longer span versions benefit from slightly more aileron differential (as obvious).

Thanks Tuomo !
I found that most of NAN's model use same wing setting as below (BF, EXP, XPL 3, etc. ):
maybe I can use this for start

Left [mm] Right [mm] Up [mm] Down [mm] Butterfly [mm]
Ailerons Up 13 13 – – 10
Down 8 8 – – –
Flaps Up – – – – –
Down – – – – MAX

Update... I have been flying the 3.8 vtail version of the q for this, my 1st season usa f5j. I do have the 4.0 xtail also. My comments/questions are regarding the 3.8 model. I have been flying a cg around 100mm, but have been liking to explore, quality test last week. Cg forward, 93mm ((euro friend setting) very stable, definately pulls up in a dive. Cg 109(different friend setting, lol), a bit tail heavy, tucks slightly in a dive. Each cg was easily manageable. Funny part is I spent most of the season almost exactly in the middle of the range. My question part is about tuning, regards to aileron differential and snapflap etc. I have tuned like a f3f plane (what I know) 30% differential, 4mm snapflap, flaps follow ailerons, a pinch of rudder mix. Normal flight, wing in section, matches fuse, camber trailing edge down 2mm, speed is 1.5mm up t.e. Seems to work ok, but I like to tune for performance. What says you?

Love the models, consistent performer.

We fly currently without differential (normal mode). Use some aileron to rudder mix to compensate, if you think it is needed.

Small thermal flap and reflex are really small. I think I use about 1mm reflex and 1.5mm thermal 1. Snap flap is also small (or off).

Different CG positions work but I think 100-102mm is a safe starting point. Last season I was using around 106mm in 3.5mm BF v-tail.

On my V-tail 4m, when only rudder is used to turn the nose dips. I use no V-tail differential and very little aileron differential.
The nose dip of the V-tail is being balanced with the adverse yaw of the ailerons.
In thermal 2 or float mode, I use like 10mm flap down and zero or 2 mm aileron down. That prevents any tip stalling.

KST vs MKS

On my standard Q, I have: Ailerons: KST x08 plus. Flaps: KST X10 mini
After one season I see some slop and they are very noisy (Buzz). I'm building now a strong layup Q, and thinking of using MKS HV 6110, HV 6130

What would be your preference and experience from KST in BF sailplane?
The MKS 6110 is slightly less powerful than the KST 08 plus. Is the 6110 strong enough for big flap?
Thanks!

MKS6130 is completely ok, I use only them in flaps, due to reasons you found out with KST.

Thanks for the info.
Do you think the MKS HV 6110 is strong enough for BF ailerons ?

The MKS HV 6110 for Ailerons and 6130 for flaps is bomb proof. I have used both for F3J and F5J for 3 years. No slop or buzz.

We use mainly KST X08 plus in light/std Q ailerons, I guess the torque is about the same as in small MKS, hence ok. In strong version I use MKS6130 also in ailerons as there is no need for weight saving.

Thanks! Good to know.
Did you use the HV 6110 in a big flap setup?

Edit: In a big aileron.
