Yeah, always possible to use plugs off and on. But its much nicer to use switch, and of course commercial units like these would always have power switch.

Not so. They are turned on by software.

Don't know if this is the right place to ask this question, please point me in the right direction if not, thank you.
I have a couple of hp dps1200fb that have had the ground floated internally . I want to connect them in series and they will not be touching each other. Is having both p.s. grounds floated a problem. Any recommendations are appreciated. Wanted to check b4 I powered them up together.
Thanks again

Is this (the picture) the same powersupply as DPS-600PB ESP135? It says ESP135, but not the rest. So what I'm actually wondering is if Marks nice method would work on mine?

And I've also seen somwhere that connecting 3-9 with an 1k ohm would raise the voltage?

And if I'm on the wrong thread I'm sorry, please kick me in the right direction

EDIT: Nwm, I found ot I don't neet to connect pin 4 to 8 to quiet the fan on this, so its just 6-8-10

It would be a good idea to read this thread before proceeding. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...1#post13992510

The black insulating sheath that goes between the case and the innards must be reused.

I only isolated the DC ground on one unit, not both. I also have a thin layer of plastic insulation between the cases just from a belt + suspenders mentality.
I have bumped up the voltage a bit over the expected 24V. Details later
Hi guys
I've bought 8 of these psu for making 4 psu at 24V.
One of these 8 psu doesn't go on. When i turn on it, the fan go on but the green led is always off and the Vout is 1V.
Have someone some ideas of the causes?

Thanks

Just my minor input after all the excellent info about power up connections which has helped me tremendously.

For HP 449838-001, 449840-002 or 486613-001 12v 62A, 750w PSU I have found the following connections powers it up. I believe it's used in a DL180/185 server.

I only have 'tested' it on a 50w load so I have no idea of stability under serious loads

The other two pictures show my connector used to test the PSU's as requested by a member and a (perhaps) clearer construction diagram.

Hope it helps
Cheers,
Barry

PS:
This pinout unit will also start up (50w test load) the HSTNS-PL29
I believe used in DLl360/DL360p Gen8 server and DL380/DL380p server.

Other HP part numbers:
643932-201,
643955-201,
660183-001,
PS-2751-7C-LF
(Revision 02)

Barry.
Hello, i've got another PSU working:
An HSTNS-PL 18
PartNo: 506822-201
it's a 750 Watts powersupply capable of 62.5Amps on 12 V derived from HP DL-380 servers.
I've started it with the aid of Barry's diagram, added bonus is that the fan starts real quiet.
I used 1kOhm resistors.
I've hadnt had a chance to test it under real load to see if the fan would spin harder but for now with my use it behaves perfectly.

RE: 62A HP power supply
When it heats up the fan will speed up. I think there is a load bias too that spins the fan based on load. I sell these.

Reverse-engineered the firmware in DSP-1200FB

Hey there,
If anyone's interested I reverse-engineered the CPU in the DPS-1200FB and figured out how to read all the internal status stuff (voltage+power in/out etc) over I2C (e.g. with a Raspberry Pi or whatever you prefer). Have not figured out how to turn the output on/off yet.

Python code here (and disassembly of the CPU firmware in the power supply etc)..

Hey buddy.

Put simply that unit is DOA, these units are so compact you have to partially destroy them to get to any of the critical parts.
Even then fixing an issue is next to impossible and at their price, it's cheaper (and safer) to replace than attempt a repair.
