Micro motor glider
Hello all I'm trying to get my dad into this awesome hobby so i got him to buy himself a micro boomerang but that was hard to fly (even for me) so I'm planing on making him a micro motor glider for Christmas using an AR6400 and champ motor
I was going to use the guillows "Sky Raider" hand launch glider for this. Tips, suggestions, help? Cheers Ben |

The best plane to learn on in my opinion is the Champ from Horizon, and if you have a compatible, programmable tx program in 15% down elevator at full throttle, a bit of expo (I actually use a lot) and if you can program a throttle curve, program it so its relatively flat in the cruise range.
That's about the easiest flying plane I have though a case could be made that the Easy Star might be better for learning since it too is a gentle but responsive plane and it's almost impossible to break a prop which is not true of the Champ. The J3 cub is hard for beginners since it will tip stall if you fly it too slow. Beginners wind up banging the stick from side to side when what they should do is give it throttle. The Carbon Cub flies well in the hands of some, but the AS3X requires you to use both sticks in a turn. If you use just aileron and elevator the yaw gyro will try to fight the turn and it goes nose high, bewildering the inept. Yeah, I love my Champ. I also love my MiG. It flies exactly where you point it but at the speed it goes you can't think about it too much. Dumb advice since I don't know what you have to spend or what gear you normally fly with, but if I wanted to introduce someone to the hobby I'd get my Champ pretty high and after a bit of talk hand them the box and talk them through a few circles and maybe even a loop. Ok then go to Hobbyking and get a Sky 500 Ultra Micro Glider 500mm (Bind and Fly) $38.00 take the RX out and replace with the AR6400 its almost a plug and play swap-out (easy) job done https://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s..._and_Fly_.html And have a read over here. https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show....php?t=1515126

the champ is pretty hard to crash. its a nice easy setup.
edit: if your dead set in using the glider airframe, ttry this: make the plane, then you fly it and try to crash it. seriously. i did this once on to a design i was working with, and after going 2 ch and larger wings with short throws on the rudder, i could never crash it. best i could do was force a hard landing. of couse this was in no wind its best to assume a newbie will try to crash, they (we?) all fly like that! |

I almost got my dad a champ but decided on a micro boomerang because it would give me a new experience. He could almost fly it but it was not very stable or tough the motor mount broke
after the first 5 flights (and i dont trust him with my champ) so I thought this would be cheaper and hopefully get a nice motor glider for my to fly and him to learn on. |
