My totally stock Katana draws 29 Amps at WOW with a fully charged 3S 1300 mAh 40C LiPo.
It will knife edge and even climb at full throttle, but pulls to the top of the aircraft so down elevator is required.
I launch underhand with my left hand. Be prepared for left torque roll. As soon as flying speed is reached I go to low rate aileron as it has a blindingly fast roll rate.
I'm getting four minutes with throttle management. I could use more up elevator on landing. It comes in hot and I don't have enough elevator to pull the nose up at slow speed.

Once you mount the wing to the fuse, it's gonna be hard to get at the esc if necessary. On the servo tray for the elevators and rudder, is it safe to assume they are both mounted in the same orientation?

Battery placement. A deep cabin. Have the rx mounted on the vertical wall. An 850-1300mah 3S or 4S might be better mounted along it's side.

Anyone else have this bird? Have not seen very much discussion which is a bad omen.

How can that be? Is the Katana motor a hotter wind than the regular JPower 4300 kV motors?

My stock AMX motor pulled the same numbers....and they had a 20amp esc in that thing too!! Good thing I used a UBEC and didn't fly full throttle too much. Maybe its a hotter motor! Not sure...but I prefer the AEO fans sound! Much better!

It also came with a 30 Amp ESC. A bit close.

I don't know why you guys are seeing those kinds of amps on a stock motor. The typical amp draw on a 4300 kV motor on 3s is between 16.5 and 19A. Something is obviously up in order to be seeing a 34% increase in amps.

They went to a 30 Amp ESC for a reason!

I can use a 40A esc on a stock motor and it still won't pull more than 19A. There must be a reason that the amps are higher and the ESC is not the answer. It makes me wonder if the concept X motor is being used, that one has a higher kV and would have a higher amp draw.

Instead of 4300kv, Skyangel equiped the Katana with a 4500kv motor. I think that might be one of the reasons.

Wow. Personally I find that disappointing. The 4300kv combo seemed like a well balanced power system with a decent flight time.

You miss my point. I believe they put in a 30 Amp ESC to handle the increased Amps the motor is drawing. The standard 20 Amp ESC would burn up in a moment.

No disrespect intended, I got your point just fine. The problem was that your point didn't address my question which was why it was drawing those kind of amp draws in the first place. It won't happen with a 4300 kV motor unless there is either a problem with the motor, a change in fan size or a change in motor kV.

Thanks. If that's the case then I would expect an amp increase. Not sure that it should increase by 1/3 with that small of an increase. Hmm......The plot thickens. I would expect a 1/3 increase with a motor that was perhaps 5500 kV. For example, the AEO 50mm fan with a 5800 kV motor pulls 31A and those are not very effecient compared to a wicked / WEMO setup. A Don's 5400 on 3s is 24 amps 280 watts and a Wicked 6000 on 3S lipo is 32 amps 350 watts, 60,300 rpm.

What kind of timing is being used on these "stock" motors to draw 29 amps? The math in all this just doesn't add up correctly. The concept X motor was around 300 Watts which would equate to roughly 27 amps at 11 volts loaded.

agreed, something is fishy here? different fan in the katana? i would not think u could get the timing that far out of wack unless the esc is toast. hope that katana cooks at that wattage cuz my screamer w/ the dons 6k gets it done!

chuck.

My Katana Combo from Hobbyb came with a 40 amp ESC and I just mounted a Don's Wicked 4800KV motor with a 4 blade fan. Should scream. Waiting out the rain.

some videos of my F-22 on 4S.
"3D" Funcub, 64mm F5, 50mm F-22 passes and close landings (4 min 6 sec)

I think I'm going to stop filming my 50mm planes for a while until I find something new.
My new videos looks like my old videos and I'm flying them the same way.
Lol! Prob a good time to do some stupid (but safe) flying.

Well I found that quite entertaining.
You don't slo fly the Raptor very much?
