I have the owned the 20in juka, the 20in yak, the 18in yak ( not official), the 22in juka, 23in Threlon, 28in extra, 28in gen x, and the 28in juka. If you are looking at an small to medium size yard 40x40ft - 80x80 ft yard then I would go for the 22in juka, you can do alot of things in that amount of space with a 22incher. a 28inch plane really is incredibly powerful and takes much more space to really have fun with it.

28" dw

I REALLY need a small field plane. I LOVE my 40" Extra, but I have been working my #@^s off this summer and have not been able to get out and fly it as much as I should. Same way with my 450 heli. (I just got a blade MCPx for the back yard and am putting 10 x the stick time that I did with my 450). I think I need to do the same with my foamy!

I have passed up so many good small fields when out and about when working and a 28 incher sitting in my trunk would really come in handy and give me enough stick time to progress my skills! Which at the moment is nill. and would make a great night flyer too!

Not sure of what to get though, thinking between the 28" Extra or the Juka.

I don't have the 28" Juka, but I can attest to the fact that the Extra flies awesome. It will do both precision and 3D very well! If the 28" Juka flies anything like the 22", I think you would be very satisfied with either!

Hover Havoc!

Could use a bit of help getting a decent hover. Can it be balance? I have my 9mm 40" Extra 300 balanced about 1/4" behind the wing spar and it flies level inverted and upright with no trim inputs. To Be honest, I love the way this plane flys! Just can't hover! Yes, it's probable me, but should I set the balance point a bit mor aft? Suggestions????

If the cg is where mike recommends it, than it should hover without even thinking about it. I find hovering down low a little easier. Keep practicing and you'll be there before u know it. The 40 DW is what I learned to hover on.

I posted this on a separate thread, but noone is replying to it. Maybe this thread is somewhat active???

I am looking at either a 48" or 55" DW Foamies BAF plane. I had a 38" Juka some time ago and liked it, so I was leaning towards the Juka. However, the Yak55 looks appealing too. I have a Torque 2818/900 motor available and quite a few 2100-2200 mah 3s batteries. I also have a couple each of 4s batteries in 2200 and 2800 mah.

I think the motor is probably more suited for a 48" plane. However, would it be good on a 55" if I ran it 4s? The torque rod hinging system on a 55" would appeal to me.

Am I correct in assuming that the 48" rolls faster and is snappier than the 55"?

Do the counter balances on the Yak 55 ailerons help the roll rate or help with snap type maneuvers? If anyone has flown both and can give me some input, it would be much appreciated!

if the torque puts out similar power as DW's motor for the 55", then i'd guess it would be okay. Just consider the weight of the 3s vs 4s batteries. If they are similar, then i'd gather it would work out okay. I don't have a 55", but my 40" DW rolls quicker than my 48" DW.

I had a Yak 55 in the 40" size. I don't think it rolled any snappier than my 40" Juka, which is still my all time favorite.

I was sorting through some footage from this last year and found this flight of my 40" Extra 300L. This is my favorite foamy and is an excellent IMAC practice airplane! Hope you all enjoy it!

Nice flying Daniel! I got a LOT of practice to do to get to that level. But at least I've kept the nose of my 40" Extra otta da dirt for the last 20 or so flights and finally got the rates up to 100%.

Getting braver. (But isn't that when things get dangerous)!

just picked up a 34" Raven Pro Kit on recommendation for backyard flying. Using full DW setup. This will be my 5th DW kit. I'm hooked.
