6S power question

Just bought one of these bad boys, and am deciding on the powerplant. Can you guys chime in and tell me what the absolute best set up is for 100-110mph level flight with 7 or 8 minutes of flight time on 6s?

I was hoping for something that would bolt right in too, without having to do modification. Price is really not a big deal, I really just want something that is reliable.

Love RC Groups, you all are so helpful. Thanks in advance!

Is price no object?

Scorpion S-4020-10 630kv on 6S and a 12x10 APC @ 81A peak will probably give you the 110mph reliably you want.

If you want to stay on a budget, Turnigy L5055B-600

Might be at its limit though, but on a 12x10 prop should give you the 110mph you want with a weight penalty from the Scorpion.

I just re-read this, 7 - 8 minutes? Hope you are prepared to either run half throttle for most of the flight, run high capacity of batteries, or increase voltage.

IMO the best would be to increase voltage to 8S to 10S.

Turnigy 50-55 320 SK3, 12x12 prop @42A peak. On a 4000mah 35C 5S x 2, You should get 5.5 minutes at WOT and 9.5 minutes at mixed flying.

Scorpion S-4020-16 415kv, 12x12 prop on 8S @54A peak. On a 4400mah 35C 4S x 2, You should get 4.75 minutes at WOT and 8.25 minutes at mixed flying.

HV setups just means more expensive batteries and ESC. No issues with motor heat, so high reliability and efficiency. Might give you closer to 115 - 120mph though.

Well said matty
I dusted down the SD 50 last night after not using it for 6 months or so and will take it to the field this weekend for a fly after charging my battery packs i noticed that one of my nanotech has puffed up not really sure why it's been sitting on store charge since then
It will be the first time i fly this plane with my new radio, DX8 running High-speed 11ms frame rate with 2048 resolution
It will be interesting to see how it feels

I did sell it, but i still had another one fully built up with the HS-4035-500kv motor in it i had flown it a few times then sold the Hyperion 90amp HV esc out of it, I brought a helidrive 120HV esc from HK recently so i will try it with that.
I need to get some practice for when i maiden the Nemesis NXT @8000watts

Thanks MattyHawk!

Is there a Hyperion Motor with the same specs as the Scorpion that you listed? I want reliable, and Turnigy motors concern me, although I have had good luck with their batteries.

I will pay $150 for the motor if it bolts right in. Will the ICE 100 be sufficient as well? Can I fit a 10s or 8s pack in it, or do I need to split them?

Hyperion Motors are made by Scorpion and you will find that scorpion motors are cheaper
and yes it will bolt straight in

Ice LOL no comment

Hahahaha! Thanks......however, I am going to do the 8 or 10s setup mentioned above. Is it better to do twin packs or one pack? Wasnt sure if the battery area could fit the longer 8 or 10s packs, or if you needed a fatter set up with twin 4s or 5s packs...
