Agree with Doomsday about Eflite batteries. I treat UM lipos just like large expensive lipos. Charge at no more than 2C and store charge at about 3.85 volts per cell. A charger or CBA capable of discharging unused lipos to store charge voltage is worth what it costs! My MSR has 102 five minute flights and I am using the same two Eflite lipos.

I use the e-flight 150 mAh batteries. they do the job quite nicely, about 7 min + flight times. they are cheap too, I just got a pack of 5 for 8 EUR

These would work well with my Champ, except we're into the Velcro problem again. Having Velcro so it works with the Champ makes it a PITA trying to get it into the battery tray of the MCX-2. |

Thanks for the battery info, everyone. I think I'm going to go with those Thunder Power 160s - I already have a few from when I used to fly an mSR; I'll order a few more.

It's fixed!
I just got through putting in the new inner shaft on my MCX-2 and it's back hovering in one spot again!!
I had noticed that it had developed a clockwise version of TBE So after looking closely I saw that the top of the upper blade had a wobble in it, took it apart and sure enough it was bent right at the very top But it's fixed now. Thanks to whoever posted that video of Blade MCX-2 repair, it was a BIG help Also thanks to the guy who invented those jewlers magnifiers that flip up! With out them I would never have been able to see those tiny screws! Frank "WOOF" Beagle Challenger Dealer CHII N797FB http://frankbeagle.blogspot.com frankbeagle at hotmail.com ph# 708-269-8057 |

Frank, you haven't noticed me as one of your visitors? You've led an interesting life to say the least

The thing that makes heli repair such a PITA is if you're flying a Chinese heli with super soft screws. The heads round out and then you can't do a thing with it!!!!!!!!

Back to the motors slipping from their position issue: for now a little amount of bicomponent epoxy (applied along one of the lines between the motor and the frame) followed by 24 hours cure time works for me. The epoxy should stick at least on metal and motor has nowhere to go now. No ideea how much added weight.

Bicomponent epoxy is not so adherent as you think, but has mass. Can be scratched off with a small flat screwdriver.
I only had around this one, normal CA and some form of shue glue which is elastic and didn't hold. |

I have an mcx2 question.
I got my MXC2 sometime back in the spring or early summer. I flew it lots of times around the house and it was working well. A true pleasure to play with and it helped me with my orientation abilities with my bigger tricopter. I did lots of traveling for work over the summer and didn't get much time to play around the house with it. About a month ago I had time to take it for a few flights around the house. It took off, sank to the floor, cut off and on, went erratic, took off and flew to the ceiling...well you get the picture. You can see the blue light on the front of the 5 in 1 actually go off for a few seconds. When it does the motor/motors keep running till it comes back on. The cyclic sticks work great till that light goes off then response is gone. It appears the MCX2 is losing it's bind. It also seems something is going on in the 5 in 1 unit that is cause it to lose bind as the motors only spin up in steps instead of smoothly. The lower motor will quit and then start up. It's just crazy. Last week I finally decided to just call Horizon Hobby. They have been good with customer service when I toasted a receiver once. They felt the 5 in 1 was bad (I thought that too) and sent me an out of warranty "courtesy replacement." I received it over the weekend and installed it today. The exact same behavior with this new 5 in 1. Is it possible the new 5 in 1 is bad with the same exact issue or is something else in my heli causing it to go crazy on me? I have checked all the gears, the bearing and anything that could be a potential problem. It all seems good. It has had no major nasty crashes that even hinted at breaking something. It still appears to be in great shape. I initially purchased the RTF setup but never used the stock transmitter. I have a DX6i that I used for all those flights over the spring/summer. I bound it to the RTF transmitter included in the box and it exhibits the same exact behavior so that rules out a bad DX6i. Do I call Horizon Hobby again and tell them the replacement doesn't work either. I will say the replacement looks like a refurbished piece of crap compared to the original one that came with the heli. The one they just sent seems like cheaper computer board and the plug for the lights is on the wrong side of the 5 in 1 and I can't even plug them in. Do I call them and tell them this? Any other ideas what could be wrong? Thanks for any help. |
