The radio system is only available in 2.4GHz which means you need a different frequency for video which is why I recommended 1.3GHz. 900MHz works well too.

So you're suggesting I look into the 2.4 ghz for the radio control and what about these 2 products for the video?

http://www.rangevideo.com/index.php?...roducts_id=222

With these 2 products and this one:

Does everything else I need to do to get my desired range involve the antennas then? And if so, will I need an antenna tracker?

Must you insist on Range Video? How about this any other 1.3GHz system. I personally use the 800mW from Urban Drones, RMRC, HobbyWireless, ect (they're all the same).

Ha no I'm not insisting on anything right now because I'm not familiar with any of these sites. With the link to that product, you're saying I will be able to get the range I want with the proper antennas? Would these antennas be built or bought and either way, about how much are they going to cost?

What about the control range? Would you still recommend the 2.4 ghz booster from rangevideo?

(Obviously I know not to use the same frequency for video and control, but that's not what I'm concerned about right now because each of these products are available in different frequencies.)
Hi,

Get these:

Video tx 1.3GHz 800mW with harness and antenna

http://www.rangevideo.com/index.php?...roducts_id=229

Video Rx with antenna

http://www.rangevideo.com/index.php?...roducts_id=232

KX171 G2 camera

http://www.rangevideo.com/index.php?...roducts_id=207

Camera wire set

http://www.rangevideo.com/index.php?...roducts_id=236

RVmic

http://www.rangevideo.com/index.php?...roducts_id=163

That's a complete audio/ video set.

And for R/C control I recommend FrSky system:

Hey reznikvova,

I really appreciate the advice but I'm on a pretty tight budget. I am pretty new to this so I just want some decent quality stuff to get started with and I might consider upgrading later.

I was looking at the FrSky system anyways, but I think I found a cheaper transmitter/receiver combo that I am more interested in.

What I am most worried about right now is just finding a set of products that can get me 3-4 miles of range with decent quality. It doesn't have to be professional or anything, just enough to get me started.

As of now, I don't have a plane yet. My goal is to get a decent sized plane (less than $200) with at least a 15 minute flight time. I want to be able to fly at a range of 3-4 miles. In order to do that, I was thinking maybe $100-$150 to get the camera, transmitter, and receiver, as well as the booster for the controller. But I don't want to start buying anything until I know how much the whole package will cost.

Vova - You need to change the geometry of that Vee antenna. The short parallel run at the feedpoint acts as an impedance transformer and will increase the impedance of the Vee and distort the signal. You need to move the feedpoint forward so there is no parallel run in the line. Model it in 4NEC2 (free software) and you'll see what I mean.

IBCrazy - I am considering this plane.

Will that FrSky system work with this or can it be modified for this plane?

Also, if I get that transmitter/receiver combo that you suggested, where do I get that helical antenna and will this setup give me my 3-4 mile range?

Get an Easystar. It has a more efficient airframe and with proper incremental upgrades, will serve you from the the learning stages all the way out to 3-4 miles...Check my blog for some ideas.

Start small. Be patient. You will eventually get there. You will spend way more than what you have specified...but more importantly, you will have to LEARN quite a bit before you could safely venture out of the confines of your flying field.

That plane should do fine, Although I don't believe the FRSky system will fit right in. There will be some hacking involved to do that. I do agree the the Easy Star might be a better first platform, though.

As for the Helical and Cloverleaf antennas you currently have 4 options:

1. Build them yourself per the following tutorials:
Helical antenna tutorial
Clverleaf antenna tutorial

2. Buy them pre built from me (or as kits). I have not officially launched the system yet, but have been sending out special orders.

3. Order them from Ready made RC. I just sent my first batch to them Friday, so they should have them in stock soon.

4. Have a fellow HAM build them for you or assist you. Most HAMs are quite helpful with beginning amateurs and often have experience with antenna construction.
