Actro 24-3 vs X-Era 4025-667 2.5Y (X-Era superior in all respects)

I have finished testing a new motor - the X-Era 4025-667 2.5Y after my Actro 24-3 broke its 5mm shaft pulling 4600 watts, the subject of this thread:

http://www.helifreak.com/showthread.php?t=111108

As impressive as the Actro was, the X-Era blows it away in my 10S setup (600CF 10S - GY611, 8717's, X-ERA 4025-667, JIVE 80HV, TT, Kasama Tail, Radix, Custom Heli frame - Outrage 3700 10S Brick 25C)

The Actro pulled 4676 watts in the other thread, with the X-Era at 4426 watts but the X-Era had significantly more power in the air, with a headspeed drop of only 100 rpm vs 200 rpm with the Actro during the same maneuvers (the drop at 180 and 210 seconds in the FDR was due to switching my idle up to 70% Governor from 75%)

Motor temp for Actro was 131F, X-Era 128F - battery was only 95F for the X-Era! (104F for Actro).

The X-Era used 2294 mah for a 240 second flight (9.55 mah per second) vs. 2259 mah for only 185 seconds (12.21 mah per second) for the Actro 24-3 - giving me 310 seconds (5.16 minutes) of run time for the X-Era vs. 242 seconds (4.0 minutes) for the Actro 24-3, a 30% improvement.

When the Actro shaft broke, I machined a 6mm shaft for it and discovered that Actro uses very soft (not heat-treated) shafts with a Rockwell "C" hardness of only 22, the X-Era measured 32, and comes with a 6mm shaft option.

The X-Era had no thrust slop, whereas you must dis-assemble the Actro and green locktite the shaft to avoid galling against the inner bearing races.

And finally, the build quality does not compare, the X-Era "looks" like its made in Germany, whereas I was surprised at the poor Actro quality, laminated plates unevenly spaced, coils uneven, and outer bell not balanced well (vibration during bench testing).

I am running a 15T pinion, these motors are starting to get some attention in the RC Groups threads and just wanted to give some feedback here as well.

I have never been impressed with Actro motors, what is the web address for the X-Era store?

You can get them here. I don't own one, but I've seen a few flown and it amazes me how cool they are after even a hard 3D routine.

It would be nice if they would shoot out an X-Era 4025-830 to say...a common man in the street.......to do a heads up comparison to his Scorpion 4025-760 in his 10S E-620 Raptor, X-Era in the other E-620 Raptor. An increase in efficiency would be worth 65 more bucks to a person like that. A person like that might see justification to retrofit his fleet in the name of quality and efficiency if the performance warrants it...

I could probably scrounge up a volunteer if the X-Era folks would be so inclined

Yep, I have two of them flying in heavy AP birds with noticeable increases in power and efficiency. Really great motors!

Haha, I've sent out a bunch of sample motors for folks to try out. The X-Era will be more efficient than the scorpion, I promise

Jimmy. How many are useing them, chachin ( 4030 2.5 y) in his Ion. I been testing the same motor in my joker. Bobby Smith has a few on his helis. Cgbole. Has one in his trex 700 but it's getting moved to his synergystine. HC will have one this week to try in his outrage 550 on 8s,

The X-Era is heavier than the Scorpion so it may be too heavy for the E620. I have a couple of E620’s with Neu and Scorpion motors. I do like the Scorpion motors best as it has more power and very good efficiency. 400+ flights on my Scorpion and it still runs perfectly.

I am very disappointed that X-Era are so much more expensive than Scorpion. I switched from Neu to Scorpion because of cost. For that reason I will probably not try one, as I am very happy with my Scorpion.

The Scorpions are very good motors but the X-era are IMO a bit better and therefore worth the extra money. I have tested the X-era 4030-2.5Y 560kv directly against the Scorpion 4035-560 in my 700e (10s F3C setup). The X-era makes a bit more power (4200 watts vs. 3900 watts), runs cooler (120-125 degs F max temp vs 130-135 degs F), and is smoother and torquier at low RPM.

That may have crossed my mind. I know better though. I always have to pay to play and consequences be damned!

Is there any chance that the price will come down in the near future to be more competitive with Scorpion?

For helicopters Scorpions are selling like hotcakes and everyone is very happy with them. I really don’t see that many will try X-Era unless they are priced close to Scorpion. Scorpions are all the rage for the very popular Trex 500 and 600 helicopters.

Man. Y'all are something else. Reason why it cost more is the high build time. It's hand wound . No machine can wind this type of motor. That why no one makes it
