Build Log

New KFm6 wing build, ..."Tribal" has started with "proof of flight video"

Well, after having so much fun with "Ming" the flying wing, I have started my new "Tribal wing". Construction will be similar as the Ming, but because of larger size ,there will be a few small changes/additions.

All the wings in my series build threads are designed to be cheap, to take one heck of a beating and still perform. I wanted to be able to build many platforms quickly and for very low cost. If any of this interests you, then please take a look at my build threads. As usual, I will freely give all details regarding Tribal, but only after I can show proof of flight. (If it don't fly, then I don't want it.)

Here are a few starter pics showing a size comparison between Ming and Tribal.

*** Designation*** "Tribal"
Wingspan: 30.0"
AUW: 5.0-7.0 ounces (Finshed weight came in at 7.5 ounces)
Battery:E-Flite 7.4v 800mAh/7.4v 1500mAh packs
Servos: JR-S185 x 2
ESC: CC 10A
Motor: E-Flite Park 250/APC 5.1x4.5 speed prop.

Enjoy,

Got back from town and had to visit with company for a bit, but I have worked on Tribal for the last 1/2 hour and thought I would give an update.

On the scales Tribal weighs in at 5.650 ounces as seen in these pics. That weight includes: Airframe, battery, Rx, and ESC. Motor weighs round 3/4 ounce with a APC 5.1x4.5 prop.

Tribal might not win any speed contest, next to some of the wings out there, but it sure is gonna be fun.

Here are a few pics,

I will install carbon pushrods, winglets and motor mount tonight. Tomorrow morning, I will charge the battery, add strapping tape to stress areas and mount the motor. Weather permitting, tomorow Tribal will see her maiden flight.

I have a few more pictures to post on Tribal, and have noticed that my build threads have gotten quite a few views, but not many posts/replies. Is anyone interested in these builds? I wanted to share some cheap and good looking/flying wings.. If there isn't really any interest, I may not post build logs and show proof of flight for my next 2 builds; the 42" Sprint wing and the 60" champion wing.

Let me know if you are interested in these builds...

Thankyou,

Tribal is finished and waiting for the speed props to get here. While I was out to the Post office I took Tribal with me to have it weighed. 7.3 ounces without the prop.

A little over what I was hoping for, but still under 8.0 ounces and well within the motors specs, so all is good.

While sitting here tonight going throgh some tidbits I found an old slow flyer prop, it was a little too long so I trimmed it down.

Long story short, I mounted it on Tribal and launched it across the front room,...

Tribal flies!!!!!!! 7.5 ounces RTF

Proof of flight video soon to come, stay tuned...

Build log for my 42" Sprint wing will come next week if there is interest.

I have been quietly watching the ming and tribal, looks like a fun project!

Keep the updates and build thread coming!

What I'd like to see is something like the slofly 48, That plane was awesome. An extremely light 48" floater!

Adam,
Thanks for your response...

I will see what I can draw up to fit that category, and will begin directly after the Sprint and Champion builds.

Stay tuned,

Watching and waiting...

I am watching and waiting to decide on building one of these. I really like the simplicity of the construction and the size is just right for my idea of a good wing to keep in the car and fly when I can. Flying wings are just too cool. Thanks for sharing your work.

Thankyou for your kind response. If you have read through my build threads so far, you will have read that that is precisely what I began building these wings for. I wanted simplicity and good performance, low build time, low cost and something I could toss in the truck/car and fly when ever I wanted. After I can upload proof of flight, I will devolve all the info needed for anyone with the desire to build their own, Ming, Tribal, Sprint and Champion wings.
