Washout on the CR. Turbo wing?
My Turbo project is about 70% done, I am now waiting patiently for a servo I ordered a week ago and I still need to cover the tail feathers and wings (still deciding on colors). All that remains is installation of the receiver and wing actuating mechanism ( I made this from 3/16" ply and nylon bushings as opposed to brass and solder).
My question is regarding washout at the wing tips. How much? Each wing panel is 29" long. they taper from root to tip when veiwed from above but the airfoil profile is the same from root to tip. I thought it tapered but after bagging the wings with 1/32" balsa they dont appear to taper when veiwed at the leading edge. Any input guys? I'll post pics soon Brian Holmes |

The Turbo had aerodynamic washout built into the foils -- just build the wing nice and straight.

Hey Paul, the wings I am using are home made using an rg 15 airfoil cut out of pink foam using templates on a feather cut rigged with pulleys and weights. I cut the wing straight and figured I could acheive the washout by tweaking the covering
CR. factory pilot eh? lucky!!! we are all big Charlie fans here! Brian Holmes |

Your home brews may need a tweek with your iron. I would fly it first before twisting things. If it tip stalls, apply twist. I bet it just flys fine the way it is.
I said EX CR factory pilot! Still have my Raider, Renegade, and a bunch of Climmax's. PN |

Hey Brian..hurry up and get that Turbo done..you are the slowest builder I know
Paul..I flew my Raider in 30mph winds straight in yesterday..was really fun. I practiced some of those racing turns that you do in those vidoes. I can do the first turn great without losing any speed..but its the farther one I have trouble with..tough to judge that one. I got a little up elevator to down flap on the mix..is that right? Let us know the trick racing mix setup as we have no clue. I plan to own Brian with my lowly balsa Renegade vs his Fun-1. Yeah..sell Brian one of your Climmax's as I am kicking his butt in light wind with my Pro. MM |
