I finished mine last weekend waiting for some good weather up here do take it out for the first flight. We have had nothing, but lousy flying weather on the weekends lately. This weekend is looking good to take the wing out for maiden.

Jt182, that Cat looks great! Hope you have great weather this weekend to maiden it. Here in Florida, and Georgia, where I am heading tomorrow for the swap meet at Perry, it will be in the 30's and 40's in the evenings. No Margaritaville weather here!

Have fun flying, Joser

Thanks Joser just used what I had on hand for covering.

Flew this for the first time today 8 to 10 mph wind what a hoot!
Some one mentioned insane rolls it sure can, and boy can this wing get small fast. This is one of the fastest flyers I have can't wait to get out and fly it some more.

One more cat...

Just maidened today! This one I built with the center of the motor mount cut out, so the battery could drop down, added some fuse side doublers extending forward, and extended the fuse bottom and the hatch. Now there's nothing in the slipstream. I got the idea after looking at some of the work of Team Stevens Aerospace, works great on the Cat!

Jose, I'm beginning to wonder how fast one could push a Cat. What the math tells me is that if I put a Microdan 2505-4200kv in this cat, running on 4s with a 5x5 prop and 40 amp esc, I'll have 119 mph pitch speed, 19 oz of thrust, and an AUW of 17 oz. Tempting. Do you think it would do 100 mph?

Houston! We have a problem!

I finally got a chance to set up my Cat with the MicroDAN 2505-2900 Kv. I also got the Turnigy Plush 40Amp Esc and two Turnigy Nano Tech 4S 1000mah batteries at 45-90C.

I also got an ESC programing Card and the only thing I changed from the default setting was the timing. I set the timing on "High," and used an APC 6x4 prop.

Results were half throttle rattled the house! Anything above half throttle, the motor started skipping or choking hell I don't know.

Any suggestions?

Screw, I have that exact setup on my Ritewing. Set the timing on low, which is the default. Even though it is a high kv motor, it is only a nine or ten pole, if I remember correctly. So the switching frequency is NOT high. That same low pole count enables you to run 4s at higher rpm if you want. In contrast, Dan's 2800kv motor has 14 poles, requires the medium or high setting, and cannot be run on 4s (at least with most esc's). Also, turnigy's "low" is everyone else's "medium".

I just re-read your post and realized you're running 4s. So I'd say "medium" on the Turnigy. But I'm just guessing; I run 3s on that motor on "low".

Screw, if you're running 4s on that motor with a 6x4 I think you're going to be pulling close to 40 amps with just the motor alone. Then you've got the BEC... It's going to be real close to the limit of that ESC. You mount your ESC's on the front, hanging in the breeze, right? That's going to help! I was thinking of going for speed with my latest cat build, so that's why I slicked it up by enclosing everything, but if it means I have to use a heavier ESC it might not be worth it... I'm curious to see how yours goes. The 2900 you have, with a 5x5 on 4s, I think has a pitch speed of around 114 or so.

I was trying to set it up per the website:

MicroDAN 2505-2900 Kv

We developed this motor using 10 magnet poles in order to improve the compatibility with ESC's running on 4s, It is easier for many ESC's to run a 10 magnet motor on 4s due to the lower switching frequency.

10 turn, 23AWG, DLRK, Delta, 10 magnets.

• weight 36 gram including mount
• Io . 1.8
• Volts 10.
• RPM 29300
• KV 2900
•Shaft diameter 3mm prop adapter not included
• Rm N/A
• Best prop MAS G/F 6x4
• Max amp 38A

3s Prop Data
• APC 4.7 x 4.25 , 23700 RPM, 10.6V, 23.78A, 17oz Thrust.
• APC 4.75 x 4.75 , 23500 RPM, 10.5V, 26A, 17oz Thrust.
• APC 5 x 5, 22300 RPM, 10.3V, 29A, 16oz Thrust..
• APC 6 x 4, 20200 RPM, 9.98V, 30A, 25oz Thrust.
• Master Airscrew 6x4, 21200 RPM, 10V, 28.6A, 31oz Thrust.

4s Prop Data
• APC 4.7 x 4.25 , 27150 RPM, 12.6V, 29A, 21oz Thrust.
• APC 4.75 x 4.75 , 25900 RPM, 12..3V, 32A, 20oz Thrust.
• APC 5 x 5, 24300 RPM, 12V, 34A, 19oz Thrust
• APC 6 x 4, 22000 RPM, 12V, 38A, 33oz Thrust
• Master Airscrew 6x4, 23700 RPM, 12.4V, 36A, 39oz Thrust.

Yes, I have both Battery and ESC hanging out in the breeze. I think I recall that Plush 40 Amp ESC will do well better than 40amps, but according to the above 4Sprop data, I'll be close, but still under 40.

I stopped messing with it last night because prior to Run up and failure, I have buttoned everything back up and put my cover hatch back on. I'll cut into it later today and reset the timing and see if that will cure it.

Thanks for the input. That motor and prop really makes some noise. I can't wait to fly this thing!

I'm sure that'll fix it. Yeah, its an amazing motor. It really makes my Ritewing tear up the sky, and that one weighs 23 oz. The 4s setup with a 5x5 is what I'm going to try on the Cat. I think it'll push it to 100. One great thing about Microdans is the lifetime warranty. Even though he doesn't advertise it, Dan will replace a crashed motor for shipping cost only. At least he did for me, and I've heard it from other people as well.
