Where do I get foam from in the UK?

I know there are a lot of foams out there and I need quite a few of them for diffrent building. they all have there difrences and uses.

I need you to give me any information on where I can get these:

EPP
EPA
PPA
PU
Polyester Foam
EPS
Blue foam.

I don't know what all the foams are like but it wouldn't just help me if we new where to get the stuff.

All I know is that robotbirds sells EPP

thanks,
willit

Try Flyingwings for Epp http://www.flyingwings.co.uk/store/index.php... You left of the most commonly used foam.... which is Depron... lots of the model shops sell it.

I prefer Epp... it bounces better!

thanks, i forgot depron. I guess that there are many foams that i left off.

I do prefer EPP to depron as EPP can bend and does not get dissloved by slovents.

when you put UHU Hart on depron it melts a huge hole on EPP it sticks rock hard

I was planning to build a huge EDF with the foam (Possiblely along the lines of a C-17)

You can get EPS and blue foam from builder's merchants, and various on-line suppliers will sell you a box of depron sheets.

Sorry but the B&Q stuff is nothing like proper Depron...It's softer and at the same time more brittle than Depron...

Dunk, after hearing so many versions of the 'no longer available' story I asked to speak to the stock guy at B&Q Castleford/Glasshoughton, who told me this:

The B&Q stock control system normally tags it as 'no longer available' but thats just a flag, it doesnt mean that literally. Stores dont normally carry stock but that it IS always available to order through their 'orange team'. Its not easy stuff to stock as its so bulky and fragile. Any actually in stock is just whats left from a previous customers order - eg if a customer orders 5 they will buy in 10, leaving 5 for us. Once they are gone, its up to someone else to place an order, paid for in advance.

So, thats what I was told and his advice seems to hold true - stores in this area have had new stock at least twice in the last month... Keep looking, it does appear from time to time, or you could order it. If the assistant says it is 'no longer available', try to find the stock expert, he will know the system better & should be able to get some for you.

My last couple of packs came from Killingbeck, Leeds, about a month ago.

Cheers

Phil
(PS I'm following your 2.4 story with great interest)

as already mentioned in this thread:
11.88 for 10 sheets of 1.2m x 0.5m x 6mm.

it's not the same as the blue foam the guys in the US build with.
it's very firm so holds it's shape very well but is also quite brittle.

it's probably not the thing to build with if you want to keep your model for a long time because it does get dented and chipped easily. (not just flying but in transport as well.)
but it is very easy and cheep to build with.

Phil:
thanks for the info. i'll keep watching.
i recently received some EPP mail order but it does not nearly match the B&Q stuff in terms of stiffness. a lot more bounce proof though.

dunk.
