Went to the LHS to buy a CF pushrod. First thing I did was find the threaded ends. I don't know what size I got, but it looked close and fit properly. I got a pair of Dubro aileron ball links and pulled the threaded couplers out of there. Next I found a CF rod that fit inside the coupler. .070 dia. seemed to be the right size. .080 was too tough to jam into the coupler. The CF rod is much less stiff than the metal pushrod. I'm still going to try it out though and I'll stay with two guides on the boom. I did it just like the pictures 4 posts up, but I put a piece of shrink tubing on the ends to make it look nice. I used JB Weld to glue the couplers onto the CF tube. We'll see how it goes....

just get a CF tube that the brass end fits into and epoxy it inside the tube and thread on the ball link
the tube is a bigger diameter but will weigh about the same because it is hollow but will be much stiffer than a smaller diameter solid rod and so, you will need no guide at all. Compare the two next time you are at the LHS and see for yourself... |

GP750 Gyro
Still fighting but I may have the answer.
I put the Gyro in on 1 servo pad (Align original) and the tail danced around quite badly and would not lock. Could not put the gain over 15 or it just did its own thing. Put 2 pads with the metal anti vibration plate in the middle, still danced but I could go up to 18 on the gain. Re-balanced the blades, head, tail blades and ran the model up without blades to check for 'buzzing' on the fin, nothing. Used Limit to reduce my throw down to 3/4 of the available and set the Delay to max (thanks Mr. Sideways) and it was a little bit better but still not really flyable with any confidence. I ran the model up until light on the ground and you could easily see the T/R servo ball moving, small very erratic flicking around, when I pulled the stick back and put on some negative to 'stick' the model down the movement on the servo stopped. Down to the local DIY market where I purchased some 'Mirror Tape' which is a thin double sided sticky foam tape which sticks really well. I got the idea off a German Forum. 1 Layer and off again. The wind was up, BUT, it seems to have done the trick. I got a little shake after I put the gain up to 30 but 28 is fine. Have to wait for the wind to drop but this may be the answer for over-sensitive Gyros. Hope it helps someone. Just measured it, Align pads are 3mm, this tape is 1mm. |

I use a sandwich of 3 layers. 'mirror' tape, servo tape, 'mirror' tape. Works great for me. |

That was kind of my point, I only have 1 layer and it seems to work. I have read of lots of cases of 'dancing tail' have U ever had it?? (On your helicopter ). I have also read of 2 or 3 people where the origional hollow (tube) Main Shaft has been off center causing vibration. U ever had that??? (I am thinking of changing mine to be on the safe side). |

Im looking for someone who can give me an honest oppinion.
I have an HK450, and although it can fly great, most of the time Its having issues because of the poor quality of the parts. Is this EXI500 the same way? Is it overall quality on par with a chinese clone or more like a trex? I want a belt drive trex with NO electronics (air frame only) to put cheap motors/esc/servos/gyro etc in, but you have to buy it as a kit these days. So my only option really is an EXI500 carbon edition. What do you guys think? Am I going to have as many issues with it as I do with the HK? The Gaui EP425/550 is VERY hard to pass up for price and gets awesome reviews... |

The EXI500 carbon is basically the HK500 with some of the fixes, like trex paddles, but I have seen that the Fancy metal tail and or tail end don't have the slots or button that sets it in the tail boom and some people have had problems with the tail end spinning around. Someone here can and will correct me if I am wrong. There is a kit being sold on ebay that appears to be a exact copy (other than color) To the Align.

Recently my tail was wagging and it turns out my pushrod guide cracked allowing the pushrod to wiggle. So now I have a new set of 3 pushrod guides - have not tested it yet. The main shaft I have not had problems with. Mine is a Tarot I've had on there since last year. |

I just found out that the exact copy of the Align 500 isn't available in the states. I had to go to Australia ebay to find it. lol http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Trex-T-rex-50...item20b0f59b40

mhills51, thanks for the response. That heli looks pretty sweet. I may just go for the Gaui. Its a shame cuz the LHS I normally go to doesn't cary anything but Align. But I know there is another shop right down the road that carries Gaui, so I may have to change LHS.
As for the tail spinning around, at least thats an easy fix. Is that all thats really a problem? That doesn't sound that big a deal, but Its everything in general that scares me. Like weak shafts, sloppy fits, bad bearings etc. Ive had enough with crappy parts. I know I can replace bad parts with align parts, but I dont want to replace the whole helicopter to make it fly you know. Then Id just buy a trex up front and skip the heartache. |

I'm in the same boat as you. I came from the HK450 to the Exi500. The Exi500 didn't seem to require as much work as the HK450, but it does have cheap parts that need replacing or fixes. See my blog. It's got every detail (prices, setup, mods, etc) and I'm sure I'll add more since I don't have the Exi500 flying optimally yet.
