Neptune

Hope this thread isn't dead. I just purchased one.I have always been interested in subs. Many years ago had a 32nd parallel type VII sub, was way too much for my skills at the time. This sub should be a great fit for me.

I did some tests today and I had to balance the SB-1, it appears the weights were on backwards from the manual, so it was stern heavy.

After swapping the weight around, it is balanced now. I have only been able to test it in my bath tub, since the weather is snowing.

I have replaced the stock 3 blade propeller with the upgraded Thunder Tiger 6 blade propeller. I have not been able to test this upgrade, I have not run the SB-1 in open water. Have no idea of the stock speed, but many say it was a little slow.

I cannot wait for the weather to turn to spring, so I can get out to a local flooded rock quarry.

Next step is underwater video with gopro camera.

This is on the surface, as high up as she gets. GoPro weighs it down:

And using planes to drive upward, upper housing of camera just breaking surface. But this is just about where it would be at neutral buoyancy or maybe slight + so it kind of simulates a static state just before dropping.

I no longer use the huge bow planes, don't like them. They are two rudders from a Thunder Tiger Victoria sailboat.

You can also mount it in front of the clear bow if you buy enough linkage bars/knobs. Inside the nose cone won't work, you'll get condensation.

You'll need to attach a Styrofoam float about the size of the GoPro back and 1/2 inch thick...alternately, GoPro has come out with their own float accessory I believe, it may be in the "surfboard" kit.

Either position, use the tripod mount accessory to attach to SB-1.

YMMV, my experience only.

hoverdown3k. be aware that your sub will float differently in a pool with the chemicals than your tub or at a pond. The ymca pool we run at makes my sub heavier in the water than in my tub. Make sure to bring trimming material with you next sunday. Greg
