This is Great Stuff adreher!

I have the DVD Tutorials from Craig Fraser and he is a Iwata users as well, very nice brush. I also got the True Fire Master Mike Lavelle on DVD. Their use of templates is great.

You have given me the kick I needed for my next to projects. I just got to get my area for painting vented, paint fumes BAD.

The nice thing about EPP is you can you Automotive Base Cotes and it doesn't damage the foam <DISCLAIMER always test on scraps, your mileage may vary> like EPS, Dupron, FFF.

The pseudo Ballerina Bipe was sprayed using PPG DBC 2000 Base cote. This was my first test, just using Fine Line tapes, to see how the performance was. It is 1989 Ford Mustang/Escort Vermillion Red. It is a very light and thin product for those foamies watching their weight. I have a lot of it left over from being in the industry for 15 years in a prior life.

The best thing about these base cotes, they are not a hardened product, left overs go right back in the can. They are VERY flexible, high adhesion, and if you know someone in the industry, you can get left overs for free. Body shops have to pay for these materials to be "properly disposed of" when they have left overs. This does require Laq thinner for clean up and the oders will have you chased away from the house, so don't expect to do this in the basement or attached garage without some kick back from the little lady. That has never happened to me.....nooooo......

Keep it coming Adam, it wont be wasted.

Looking good guys.

I have never used a rattle can on a paint job, have always had an airbrush. Like in that link above, I think you can use all the masking techniques I do, but use a rattle can instead. you will just have to be a little more careful and watch out for overspary.

daoldguy, the planes look good. How do you like the true fire video and templates? I have always almost got it, just never have. The nice thing about using the water based paints is none of the fumes, and clean up with water.

Please sticky this to scratchbuilt

Please make this a sticky, there is much to be learned. Rattle can would be a big help, would love to have an airbrush, that will have to wait.
Thank You ADAM

I vote for sticky too! The information is just too good. Great job Adam!

One of the surprising things to me is that the water based acrylic paints stick so well to epp. Epp is usually hard too stick stuff to. The acrylic paints don't always have the best hold compare to other paints; but the combination of acrylic paint and epp really seem to go together...the ant job is almost as tough as the epp!

Great thread. Go sticky.

Here are a couple more 'classic' foamy rattle can how-to threads from a few years back (3D Forum) that should sticky too:

Part 1:
Part 2:

Oops: I just found that one of these is the same link ewo gave.

Watts up

My first real paint job with a airbrush

It was easier than I had planed.
I did make alot of mistakes like : Used way to much paint and when I thought it didn't look good enough, I would even put more paint on. The color in the lettering was going to be a smoky look

A Big Thanks to adreher for the excellent airbrush video

Ok I had to copy Adam on this scheme, but I wanted to try it. I have five or six FireFlys to paint for a friend so I will post them here as I get them completed. One of his requests was to paint it all orange on top, but I just couldn't do that so hopefully this will be a good compromise. Adam the little trick you shared with me this evening works great. Thanks!

rclarkeingg, Dude, looks great! It is easier that most people think. But really, nice job. The lettering is crisp, flames are layed out nice too.

Mark, you are getting good man. Very nice!

I put a few more pics of planes at the begining. Will be making a video using only spray cans soon.

I gave the templates a try, works pretty good.
This is my first plane, and I used rattle cans.
Now on the next one I need to learn to drop shadows.

Here are some of my newer sharpie schemes. The trick to using sharpies is to wipe the foam down with alcohol and let Dry completely (several hours) and then do the sharpies.
