Can't find iron on silk covering....HELP!

Sorry to bug you guys but I have to start somewhere.

I used to use this great covering.....Coverite Super Antique...but they don't make it anymore. I loved it because it ironed on easy and looked great. I covered my Taube with it and love the look. I need something that is equivalent.

Here's the specs I would like:
1. Looks like silk...slightly transparent....see taube below.
2. Irons on
3. Pre-painted cream color
4. Does not have to be fuel's going to be electric.

Once again, sorry to post it here, but I figure you guys would know.

It's for my Balsa USA Sopwith Camel project.

No conspiracy in theory

Not yet, but I see a WW1 monoplane in my workbenches future that would like that covering! And I remember that Coverite, I sold quite a few rolls of it when I worked at a local HS to a gent building a 1/4 scale aeronica and a cub! He was quite happy with the way they turned out. Unfortunately I never got to see more than the champs tail feathers, but I did hear years later that he completed both models. Maybe someday I'll get to see them.

The Nelson product will work well for you. Jerry suggested that before you apply it, to spray the airframe with Aquanet hairsray. This acts as an additional bonding agent, for the covering.

Another similar covering is Solartex, sold by Balsa USA.

After using 21st Century Fabric, and Coverite for years, I recently purchased Solartex. I find that applys much easier than the Coverite products.

I didn't think it would be possible, but it goes around corners, etc, better.

The Nelson and BUSA products are similar, if not the same. I'm sure that you'd be more than satisfied with either one.

Thanks guys.
Does anyone know if that Solartex cream color slightly transparent? I really want to get that look I did with the Taube.
Thanks for your time.

Hey Tom,
I found this definition on Solartex....I think that's the route I'll go:
ANTIQUE SOLARTEX: A creamy beige translucent fabric for use on models of veteran aircraft such as Bleriot, Antoinette, Avro Triplane, where the structure can be seen beneath the covering.

I have used Solartex, before and after they added the resin coating. I have reciently used Nelson Lite Fab and absolutley love it. My observation is that Lite Fab is much, much lighter and finer grained than any of the Tex's out there, including Coverite (both colored and not colered).

As for spraying the frame before application, I had no problem at all getting the Lite Fab to stick to the 1/64 th ply leading edges.

As for weight, this wing panel is 91+ square inches, and I added 1/2 ounce with the covering.

Thanks Les,
That looks a little too thin for me and it looks like you have to paint it later...yes?

Looks nice though Les.....did a great job!

Both products require painting. At least a clear coat. Both are gas/fuel proof, but they get dirty easily.

Spraying them with, say, Nelson's flat clear, will make it easier to clean your model after a day's flying.

Thanks Jodini, and yes you do have to paint this.

Tom: Solartex has a resin coating, and I have used the yellow stuff without painting, and had no problems.
