RimFire 35 36 1200


I hope this is the right area for this thread question. I was looking at the GP Reactor bipe and see that the recommended motor is their Rimfire 35-36-1200. Looking at it's specs, it sure seems to handle a lot of power (660w) for a motor that is only listed at 3.5 oz. The weight sure seems lite for that size motor, as all comparable motors with that watt rating are running about 5-6 oz (AXI, Torque and Hacker).

Any one with actual experience, your help would sure be appreciated.

I have the 950, and while powerful, it is not that powerful in relation to its weight.

Their recommendations tend to be a bit on the underpowered side, and, in my opinion, the specifications puffed.

What is the 4 cell rating?

I don't know. I thought the max watt rating would be independent of volts, as volts x amps = watts.

The advertisements show 660 watt rating, and that sure seems like a lot for the listed weight of the motor. I saw somewhere else that the 35-36-1200 was way overpowered for the reactor bipe. I have a torque 4s system for the 3d hs Velox and it has scary power.

I tested the 35-36 1000 and found their ratings to be extremely optimistic. My test motor was rated for 592W/53A, and it got hot at anything over 400W - at anything approaching 500W it couldn't hold amp draw and rpm. The most I ever pushed through it was 41A and it didn't like that.

to be on the polite side, the 35-36-1200 is a real powerhouse and yes Vintage, it "kicks butt"

i have this motor in my Reactor bipe, using an 11x5.5 apc and 3S 1800mah 25c lipo it pulls the 36 oz bird staight up and continues a vertical climb till i pull back on the stick.

i think the most amps i have pulled is 46, and 480 watts (i'll have to look at the Eagle tree file to verify).

flight times are 6.5-7 minutes easily.

the motor will take 4S (14.8v), but with a much smaller prop.

Also, to be on the polite side (on Xmas Eve):

If WOT were used sparingly I can see 46A/480W - if you are getting 6.5-7 minutes you are nowhere near that as an average.

All I was suggesting was that GP's recommendation of 55A/666W really is over-the-top!

hi Doc,

hey i was not referecing you at all..........on 4S i can see where the upper range of watts/amps could be achieved.

i just looked up one of my Flight recorder sessions and on 3S i was at 48.8 amps and 567 watts on the 3S 1800mah pack.
my flight times are not using full throttle at all.
a burst or 2 here and there in the flight, but mostly controlled power management.
my reference to full throttle was to give the OP an idea of what to expect from the 35-36-1200 which is for some reason a much much stronger motor than the 1000.

you average is around 180watts.

Reactor bipe is fine with only 300watts, APC 12x6. for 3d.

One motor 35-36, case dimentions or 28-14 stator dimensions is ok. with 800-950 kv.

Did you have to do any work to get the CG located in the correct position? Somewhere I read that it took a bunch of tail weight to get it to balance with the Rimfire, both 3s and 4s. With either an AXI, Scorpion, Hacker or Torque of comparable watt ratings, it looks like even more of a problem, as all of these motors list weights higher than the Rimfire.

i wouldn't use a 4S with the Reactor. the 3S 1800 or 2200 packs is more than enough power with this bird.
the 35-36-1200 performs best with 11x5.5 apc on this plane, and actually, it was the prop that the guys in at Hobbico tipped me off about.
the CG was not a problem with the stock setup. when using an Flightpower 3S 1800mah 25C lipo it is mounted right up against the firewall. with a FP 3S 2170mah 25C it needs to be an inch back from the firewall. no tailwieght needed.
the only other motor i would try for this plane would be the Reaper GR25........same wieght as the Rimfire, but if it performs anything like the GR35 i have in a 3DHS SR, it'll be a rocket.
