Replacing the Rudder Servo in the AXN


SMEs: what's the best way to replace the rudder servo in the AXN Clouds Fly?

Mine finally went out...

If this question has been already been answered, please kindly provide the link to it.

If its like mine, its stuck against the side with double sided servo tape. I used a hot knife to get it out, heat the knife in boiling water. The water helped lubricate the blade, the heat softens the tape.

Mine is hot glued in.

Use a hobby knife and stay close to the servo gently prying away during incision. Using the servo to scrape against to keep from cutting into the aircraft.

It's ok if u damage the area a little just use hot glue to replace with the new servo. A little surface loss or pits or small craters are insignificant due to plenty of material to attach to. A change of angle or whatever won't cause rigging issues. Have fun

You already have lots of good suggestions. I will just add one more. I just took a medium size screwdriver (blade type) and pried the servo out (I did both the elevator and rudder servos). No damage was done whatsoever. Mine were double-sided taped, too.

Hi guys,
I saw someone mention gyros a few pages back...
Below is a video I posted on the OpenAero thread of my AXN Floater with a development build of OpenAero V1.12.
As skellator kindly mentioned, it uses a KK board with 3 MEMS gyros and an accelerometer for autolevel.
Have a look at the OpenAero thread. Quite a few people successfully flying various aircraft with it now. Hopefully it will be my turn soon :P

There are pictures of the setup at the end of the video.

Are you guys using flaperons? I tried using flaps but man.. It just wanted to glide even more. I put the flaps in the "up" position so they are more air brakes than anything and it seems to get me on the ground much faster/smoother. Either way.. This plane is just great

Use air duster and turn the can up side down spray the liquid aerosol on the glue. It will shrink the glue and make it bristle. The you should be able to crack the servo and Glue out. Try to not freeze burn your self in the process.

Yes that one will work fine for basic stability. Not really off topic anymore as the OpenAero test plane is an AXN Floater Oops, I should point out that OpenAero is free and open source

exactly there a few more option, but I think you can ask this on openaero thread , I'm getting my servo connector, converting those Y servo lead to a full aileron, wanted to test flaps on the AXN , hopefully I can get it flying tomorrow with the gyro, I wish i have extra mems modules for my AXN now my mems is occupied by my tricopter

I see where it has been recommended that aileron Rudder mixing is recommended but I have not seen much on which way the rudder should turn when the ailerons turn. I guess it is obvious to most but even goggling provided a lot on mixing but not on which direction the surfaces should go.

My AXN has been doing the spiral of death lately and have only recently put in rudder mixing with the aileron. I have right aileron and right rudder mixed in together.

I just read where this is correct but it seems wrong to me.

I guess someone can clarify this?
