I think I might have to take the new Stingray to Stoney Creek this evening for some practice. The wind forecast for today looks better than tomorrow.

It seems that the third time's a charm. My first two stingrays were way too tail heavy, and I ended up smashing them just trying to get them to fly right... Well, I've taken all the lessons I learned, and built one Properly. Maidened it last night, and it flew beautifully. If I don't do anything too stupid tonight, I should be able to compete in my first combat session tomorrow. Woo Hoo!

After crashing my stingray in last week's first round of combat, it is rebuilt and ready to go again tonight. I put it on a diet (peeled off a bunch of tape, lengthened the nose, took out some weight I was using to get CG right). AUW went from 9oz down to 8oz. Flies much, much better.

Well, gentlemen... that sure was fun tonight. Two mid-air collisions and I was involved in both. Sorry Mike and sorry Keith. Hope the damage wasn't bad. A little gorilla and I'll be back next week. For your viewing pleasure, I present: "Aww... the prop came off" - a test flight from earlier in the week. The plane does some neat tricks after losing the prop and I'm still trying to figure out exactly why. I did have a prop saver band that wasn't strong enough (thanks hobbyking), but I am thinking something broke loose before that... please have a look.

Hmm, king of combat with only 3 cuts? maybe so.

Shane: I wonder if your cg is slightly aft and the loss of prop weight on nose made it go nose up? could be a combination of motor thrust holding nose down til it disappeared as well.

Shane,
That really was an interesting incident. Not sure except for the sudden loss of additional weight up front resulting in aft CG. Just adding a spinner or large adapter makes quite a difference.

Unemployed, Homeless, Happy
Shane and Ken, I'd like to introduce myself. I'm nzjbh4 per Plano. I flew at Stony Creek my first time 20 some years ago with some sailplane types. I get by there once a month or so, have to stop and check it out. Drove by there about 4 yesterday with some planes in the truck and thought about it. See there were some people there, wish I would have followed through. I spend my organized time with GDSHS so I have a park sticker. I'll have to look through this SEMFF thread.

Welcome, Jim! Stop by and join the unclub. One thing I've found is that enjoying this hobby with a great group of people makes it a lot more fun. Last night, when I lost a battery, everyone helped me find it. Thanks much, everybody!

Welcome as well! If ya still like sailplanes, bring them out, there are several of us that fly them regularly at Oak Grove. But among us, we pretty much fly every type of foamie.
