...but I thought that Australian bicycles are traditionally ridden while sitting on the handlebars... thus escaping sinister chain-marks on the left trouser-leg.

I only say that because my dad can ride a bike that way...sitting on the bars, facing backwards, riding forwards. As a kid I was always amazed, but never bothered to learn how.
