Bulent,

I've been following along and I really admire your workmanship. I think its great that your mom has been a big proponent of your craft. I wish the both of you the best.

Take care,

Paul

Thanks for your good wishes.. I could not keep my emotions at bay.. I think her destiny is in the hands of God now.

I removed the shaft of the backup motor, but did not put in the new one. It is a really tight fit, and might need some hammering again. I may have to cut reliefs for circlips on the shaft first.. This is possible using a Dremel cutoff disc on the shaft while it is rotating in the lathe, but the quality depends on the stability and dexterity of the hand holding the Dremel

I modified the thrust plate's holes, so now the motor mount setcrews are reachable from the sides. The motor will be easily replacable by removing the spinner/prop and two setscrews on the motor holder. Field replacement seems feasible.

Replacing the aileron bellcrank with a flexible pushrod seems possible, but not a very straightforward job. If the pushrod was external, it might be easier - but ugly. As it goes now, all actuating mechanisms will be hidden, including tail wheel control; only the rear ends of rudder pul pull cables will be external as on the full scale.

Bad news,

My mother has passed away 6 days ago. Her suffering has ended, that is our only consolation. My work was interrupted as a consequence, but I am willing to start again soon. Building keeps my mind off sad thoughts. I may go away for a few weeks, however - that will delay the process.. There is less chance that I will finish the model by the deadline, but I don't care. I will finish the model - my mother would have liked it very much.

I lightened the thrust plate, got it from 6.3 to 4.8 grams. I don't have photos yet. I am also replacing the shaft of the second (higher stack) motor.

Regards,

Bulent

Thanks Pat, Tony, Tom,

Yes, she is not suffering any more and must be in heaven - she was such an angel. It was hard to withstand her condition on the last days..

Saddened to hear that, Bulent. I hope that you do dedicate the Fairchild to her and find the will to continue.

Again, my condolences.
