Hi all,

You don't. Unfortunately, it's not a simple, "The Hacker B20 4L 59CPQX is equivalent to a Speed 280."

Just swapping out brushed for brushless won't necessarily get you any performance gains, and may indeed make things worse. For example, if your Speed 280 turns 10,000 RPM on 6 cells, and the Hacker only turns 8,000 RPM on the same battery and prop, you've spent a lot of money for a 20% reduction in performance! In this case, you'd need to change the gearbox and/or propeller to take advantage of the brushless motor.

.. but brushless motors usually come in many different winds (i.e. the B20 hacker has two sizes (short and long) and at least 7 winds:
26S & 26L
So you can pick the motor to suit your needs.. Choose with care!

still confused

I understand the rpm ideal and i also understand gear ratios and the such but i'm still having problems understanding how these motors are listed.... I mean what is 3 turns as opposed to 4 turns and what is 12L to 13L mean? Is there another rescource where these terms are discussed that i can access?

Every manufacturer does it differently. There is no 'standard' because not all motors are built the same. Aveox lists theirs by case diamter and rotor length. Hacker by 'class' (20,40,50) and wind. Kontronik uses a similar class, but they are '400' and '500' and such, along with kV.
In the case of hacker, the 12L means 12 winds, Long can.
There is no magic way to tell, or guide available, as it would be quickly out of date.
