Remote pyro igniter for x-port Cub
I just finished up my custom igniter circuit for my electric planes! It will let you fire off any pyro device in flight - it has up to 4 individual pyro channels. Here I started with the reign smoke cartridges since they are pretty nice. I just really got tired of having to light them on the ground and then quickly take off - wasting all that good smoke.
The circuit right now is controlled with the x-port button on the HZ radio. You can also change the sequencing of the firing (for the 4 separate pyro devices) and the on time for the igniter charge. I am adding more features here as I get time. Anyway, here is the first video of it working: RC electric pyro igniter using Hobbyzone X-port (on HZ supercub) (0 min 31 sec) The smoke cartridges fired off just fine in the air. Did several tests with them today. Of course, next up is testing out onboard missiles! I have tested the circuit with the reign igniters (those things are wicked) and normal estes rocket igniters. Works fine with either, I will be testing other pyro stuff next with the estes igniters since those are cheaper. I also plan to add a combat mode that works with the x-port sonic combat module. This way when you get hit, not only does your motor go off but a smoke cartridge will also fire off! Thought about putting firecrackers in the wings, but that more ultimate combat one-hit one-kill. The smoke effect should work for now. If all goes well I will install the board into some larger planes. Always wanted one of my edf jets to fire off a missile in flight! |

Well, the AMA isn't laughing... but I think its cool as hell.
Can't really see anything in the vid though. |

Well, I wouldn't go any farther then the smoke, since it really isn't considered as "fireworks". If you do put fireworks on it, you risk having a bad encounter with the law, and possible harm to other people from fireing explosives in their area.
IMO, smoke is going almost too far with the pyro. Use the moke cartridges that hobby lobby sells to stay within the safety of the law. |

How is smoke going too far? You know, gas engine planes have lots of pyro in them. And a tank of gas to boot. Talk about a flying fuel air bomb.
But if you put a safe smoke cartridge on your plane, watch out! I didnt realize the backlash I would get after posting this. I guess I will keep my innovations to myself, as I find in this hobby they are really not appreciated much, unless they fall into coded guidelines. I'll take my outside the box thinking to greener pastures. |

don't worry about that the general public just dosen't understand ''fireworks'' so they fear them and everything to do with them. BTW heres my tiger moth with smoke http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KGoT6m-9ksE |

^ I want to do that with 3D plane to get rolls looking awesome.
But anyway, hyperdyne, you should make your own ignitors and save money with necrome (something like that) wire around matchheads in a straw filled with gunpowder (or morning glory powder). I tried that during fourth of july and they work great (and save so much money about 1-3 cents per ignition. you buy the wire for like $2.50 for 30 ft.) |

Thanks, I did buy some nichrome wire. I will have to try out the matchstick or other idea. I didnt know what to use for the pyro material around the wire. You aint kidding, regular ignitors are pretty darn expensive!
On another note, I did two smoke tests today in flight (on the cub) and ignition was flawless. I love using the radio for remote ignition! Let's just say the custom missile rack on my cub also got some use. Some people may not like the idea, but it was definitely one of the coolest things I have ever done with my RC airplanes to date.. |

Yeah, its kinda annoying every time some one post something new and fun. like fireworks. some ones eye start to twitch.
AMA has no hold over private land owners. Or people with No AMA licence...like me! Im in process of building a 600 size apache with two of MR. Zaitsevskys' Firestarter Ignighter circuits. it will be epic! |
