HS-81 servos equivalent replacement

I'm using HS-81 servos in my ELMH. I burned out 3 of them in the last year. I'm now looking for another brand of servos that will last longer than the HS81. Let me know wich one have a proven reliability. They need to be the same size as the HS81.

Did you burn them out, or just strip the gears?

There's a few servos the same size:

Hitachi HS-85
Volz Micro-Maxx

The little motor in the HS81 servo burn out easely. That is the problem. Maybe Futaba have an equivalent servo that will be more durable, and more expensive!! The gears are good.

The Dymond 200BB is the same size and weight as the 81's.
A ballbearing output shaft too.

Haven't put them on a heli yet but I gave a pair a beating on my TwinStar. Durable.

Stripped a lot of gears in the HS-81's on my Corona. I switched to JR 341's - no stripped servos anymore. Never had a motor burn out in the HS-81's either though. I've got a JR DS368 on the tail rotor now, just because! Maybe I'll try the Futaba GY401 & 9253 servo, but first I need to overhaul the tailrotor it's all bent and shakes like mad.

The Futaba 3101 and 3102 are the same size as 81s.

The 3101 is about $30 with nylon gears. The 3102 is the same servo with metal gears, but its like $60!

Either one is a great choice, along with the JR 341s and even the Dymond servos.

HS81 equal

If your using this for the tail then the JR341 and the Futaba 3101 or 3102 are a bit on the slow side. If you are burning up the HS81 then I assume you are using heading hold. Try running your gyro in conventional not heading hold. You may also be able to try the Futaba 3103 or 3106, slightly smaller but have the same speed specs the HS 81. Haven't tried these on a heli. If you dont mind a little filing you could try the Airtronics 94145? micro high speed. Slightly bigger than HS81's but I don't think you will burn these up even using heading hold. Also if you are using the latest types of gyros make sure the frame rate is set for normal not fast unless using specific servos built for fast frame rates.

If you are burning these up only in the tail, then like jmper said, it could be the gyro over-working it. Another suggestion would be to lower the gain in HH mode.

You said you burned-up three in a year, but that could be a lot or a little, depending on how much you fly. With how much I fly right now, in the fridged Midwest, I can go a decade without burning anything up.

Thanks for all the replys guys,
I'm not using a HH gyro, I use a cheap piezo gyro. I did burn 1 or 2 on the tail and 2 on the swashplate. Three of the four servo's damage happened while I was experimenting a lot of glitches. If we could buy replacement motors for the HS81 servos, that would be a good thing. Anyway, I'll probably stick with the Hitec servos because they are less expensive and I already have a few set of spare M gears and P gears.
