Falcon 120 EDF Conversion
I recently bought a Falcon 120 from nitroplanes with the intent to convert it to an EDF. I have seen some threads on converting this airframe to a wing but nothing specific to an EDF conversion on the stock airframe.
Here is my set-up:
120 E turbax fan
Castle 110hv ESC
Neu Motors 1521
12s 8000 lipo
Anyway If anyone knows of a build thread for this beast or can give me some advice please drop a line on this thread.
Futaba S3002 for tail or Hitec HS-225MG
DS821 Digital Sport High Torque Servo by JR for wings and flaps
Reciever Battery 5 cell 2000 ma pack.
Batteries were 12s 5000ma placed on where the servos mounted later I made a plate to side them more toward the rear. (nose heavy, still fly’s great). 8000 ma packs will require you to shift back your batteries even more.
I custom made a aluminum bracket to hold the fan,, it helped push the fan back. The width of the back of the Falcon matched the width of the Dynamax. I mocked it out of card board first then bent it up, and used screws to attach it to the base of the Falcon.
I took my fan unit and turned into a nacelle so that it had an intake ring and thrust tube.
It made the plane look right plus it is functional.
The ESC was mounted under the fan unit in the open air.
See if this helps
CG Factory settings 13 inches from leading edge
Fan mount made from 60 thou aluminum sheet bent to shape
Nacelle made intake ring of thin ply molded round and 1 1/2 inch out from the front of the fan , thrust tube made of mylar, blue foam covered, shaped then glassed.
