Glad you guys like it. I`m pretty pumped about it too.

Maybe some kind of conversion kit would be worth trying. Nitro Planes is going to sell a boat-load or 3 or 4 of these things. There may end up being a market for something like this.

Got the foam melted out after my "nap"

Since I didn`t use tape on the foam, it was really stuck to the glass. Next time i`ll put some tape on the foam even if I use epoxy resin.

Once it completely sets It will need some reinforcement on the inside in some areas. Not much, but here and there.

You could easilly get some Carbon tow or ribbon and make enough reinforcement and be very lightweight as I'm sure you know. What did you use to melt the foam?

Yeah, I have a roll of tow somewhere, I need to find it.

I used lacquer thinner to melt the foam.

The resin wasn`t completely set when I removed the foam, so I may have lost some resin in the process. It`s still getting stiffer. So it should be OK.

No, I stopped to build the F-16XL and am playing with that right now. Not sure when I`ll get back to it. I have too many toys.

Would this work for this UCAV?

That hobbycity fan unit is cheap, thanks AMTJIM!! Heck yeah I would like to know if that would work also!

The Hayeo fan would fly the plane, but take it from me. They are amp hogs. Lots of wasted energy. they will give you thrust, but not much speed.

You`d be much better off going with an HET or WeMoTech 90mm fan. they will give you the thrust and speed that you`ll want to have when you fly this jet.

EDF all the way!

Not sure about the AMP HOG, but I have a 4" Hayeo in a Nitro plane Bob Cat 52". Using a Hacker A40-10S 10 pole motor on 8S 4000 ma LiPo. I'm pulling 47 AMPS and the plane flies great! RTF weight is 7 lbs.
Never checked the speed but it is fast enough for me.

Well, you are flying a 10s motor on 8s so I guess the amps should/would be low, but the speed will be low too. If < 100mph is fast enough, then the Hayeo will do the trick. If you want to go fast, and try to spin them up, then they become amp hogs. They are thrust makers not speed fans. That`s my point.

I crunched a few numbers Bob. You are turning about 18k rpm at roughly 1000w. Id be suprised if your actual airspeed is more than about 80mph or so.

Like I said, if that`s fast enough for you then it`s fast enough, but most guys that are looking to fly something like this are looking for speeds above 100 at least, and when you try to get speed out of the Hayeo fans, they eat amps and give little in return. Them`s just the facts.

Yes, this is a very light plane and a good size for a 90mm fan. I want to go stupid fast, so I`m going to use a TJ-100 with intake duct work in mine, but a 90mm fan at 2kw+ would be a pretty sweet combo for this plane.

Look at Carl Rich`s threads on testing the Midifan at 2kw+, up to 3.4kw and then pick your poison. He has done all of the leg work, just pick the motor and battery combo that you want and slap it in this plane.

The stock intakes will let in plenty of air. Just mount the fan on the supplied beams with an intake ring like the one that comes with the Midi fan and choke the exhaust down to about 72mm and you will have all of the thrust and speed that you need to have fun with this plane.
