Build Log

Sloper made from Depron

I decided to build a small compact glider for the slopes, that will be made from depron.

Parts from 3 and 5 mm thick depron

Edges of cockpit are reinforced with a wood strip.

Test fit of the fuselage ribs.

Forward part of the fuselage.

One drinking straw on the bottom for the RX antenna and one bowden for the elevator on top of rear fuselage part. Both holding in place with a fuselage former.

Sanded all fuselage edges and nose rounded to proper shape.

Wing construction using double sided self adhesive tape.
Spruce spar and depron ribs.

Finished model.

Maiden flight:
Depron glider (3 min 46 sec)

It was allmost no wind, so I am waiting for the proper weather to test the model completely and find out its real and practical flight envelope.

My plans so far are that my friend will prepare CNC laser cutted parts and sell them as a KIT version including all other materials (wooden strips, elevator bowden, controll horns...)

I will think about publishing the plans for free later... maybe in january 09.

As weather dont permit me to fly on the slope to shot some videos, I started to prepare the assembly manual.
I made allmost all drawings of assembly process....

Assembly is making a toy from Lego....

As this glider is made from depron, and building thread is inclined more to the construction material and less to the flying ambient (slope), I moved to the section Foamies (Scratchbuilding):

If I eventually catch some nice video on the slope, I will post it allso here.

Has anyone told you to put some more nose weight ?
Appearently it´s tail heavy.

You´ll be able to fly with much more control.
