Mike, thanks for the nice video of the Empire. One of my better takeoffs and you preserved for posterity!
Hope to see you out to Chilliwack again someday. My camper is always open to you, and to anyone of the other nice folks up there, too.

Did you never come across this during your sojurn here (it's at Cardrona)?

YES! I saw that driving up to the Wanaka Museum to the north. I had been told about it by the hotel when I said I was going. I even have a photo of it somewhere (before digital)

BIMBO Mugs 2018

Bad news! Val Sparks, who runs the pottery where I get the BIMBO mugs has decided to close down in mid April. She asks if I want any mugs for 2018 before she closes, so I've made a preliminary order of six. The mugs are usually £10 each.

So a couple of questions, fellow BIMBs.

Who would like to order a mug for this year's BIMBO meet? At cost price of course.

I thought perhaps an Auster for this year's plane, but I'm open to suggestions...but I should let Val know in the next week or so.

For overseas members, I'll have to charge postage: even the SPNOKA budget, grand though it is, can't stretch that far, especially after funding my float test tank in the garden.

Hello Mike

Am I too late, you said "the next week or so", Sorry!

I got off the plane from the US yesterday. Today its raining. All my Californians are getting rain too, but they've been praying and dancing for it.

Well, with the rain and everything, I had to make a start on my new project. I've had the plans for the Dragonfly since 2013 and they've been calling out to me all this time. It might be premature to suggest a Dragonfly as our next mug, but I'm on it now. I've been studying the excellent build thread by ChrisS from the third rock out, linked from the I.P. thread.

Good work Nick! Not too late but the Dragonfly, pretty though she is, might be too tricky. You clearly had a good time in CA...

Thanks Mike. Here's a link to my new build thread: DH90 thread

I was in touch with the guy who looks after the cricket field where we had the rally last year. He says they've got building work going on this year and he'll let me know when flying is a possibility there again. Didn't sound very promising. I don't think we offended him or caused too much trouble last year. He was friendly when we played cricket there last Summer. Maybe it'll be a possibility in future but we can't count on it this year I'm afraid.

Thanks Nick for the heads-up. Our facilities down here in the South at Strawberry Field and Longham (and the lovely slopes both near and not too far away) are available for a BIMBO meet (and the mugs are on order). I'm unavailable 14/15 July and 11/12 August, and we are on hols from 31 August for a couple of weeks. Would anyone like to suggest long weekend dates at any other time? I can then contact the Club committee and Longham management to book the dates.

As it happens, our two “can’t do” weekends are the same as Mike’s, so no other constraints from this end.

Hi all, can't do 27th July-5th August as pedaling in the Alps. Also 11/12th August are out, as i'm throwing myself off Bognor Peir again.

Possible BIMBO Weekend

Having looked through the 'unavailable' dates. It appears that the weekend of 18-19 August would suit everyone. Can we agree on these dates please, at Longham etc, so that we can get a slot in the caravan site nearby.

Sue Hardy

PS probably too late for a mug, but if one available yes please.

Thanks Sue - I agree that seems to be the only free weekend for everybody, so yes: BIMBO Weekend 2018 is August 18/19. As before, you are very welcome to come down a day or two early: Strawberry Field and Longham will be available, but on the Sunday the field will not be open for flying because of the car boot sale so we would hope that the weather is OK for Longham.

I will have six mugs!
