Which Lithium setup to use in Zazi with Astro ???


Which Lithium Poly setup should I to use in my Zagi 400 with Astro ?

I really don't think there would be a good setup.

The li-poly packs should not really be pushed beyond 2-3c on discharge rate. Some have gone as high as 5c with the knowledge of reduced battery life and diminishing capacity.

I'm not sure what the amps the astro zagi combo would pull but I got to assume it is between 20 and 30 amps. This would necessitate almost 10Ah of li-poly pack! Quite a large battery. This would be almost 6 times the capacity of the stock zagi 400X 1700mAh pack!

The Li-Poly packs so far have worked great in small park flyer sized planes because of their low amp draw.

Well, we do use the Astro 010 with the Li-Poly ( 3 Cell ) and that works GREAT !!!

So I would think that 2x3 ( serl x Parll ) would work GREAT !!!

?

What do you want your Zagi to do? If you want it to fly "all day" with good performance (30 degree climb, easy loops) you might like my setup on an FMA Razor (about the same as the Zagi):

Astro 801G, APC 12 X 10E prop, 2 Kokam 3270s.

I will try the 02 Astro with the Prop it comes with and:

(1) 2 Kokams 1000mAH in serial

(2) 2 Serial x 2 Parll 1000mA Kokam

Will seee how it works !!!

I think you are going to have balance problems. With the lipolys you won't be able to get your cg forward enough. If your motor pulls 12 amps, you will need 6C from those cells to provide it and that may be tough on the cells. If you are looking for longer flight times, try the Sanyo 1700 4/5AUP or the 1950 4/5 FAUP. The later will weight 40 grams more in an 8 cell pack, but either one of those cells can provide 20+ amps and they can provide those currents easily.

I have asked that question before and people said there really is not a good set up.....because you would not be at an advantage because you would eventually have to add to much weight....they told me to wait a couple years till they developed the tech.
