first test fly

Here is the report after first test fly :

I have made 4 flyes with this plane. The test is good, easy to take of and cool landing.
One bemol, the speed at full trottle is not very impressive. Finaly, a good plane in general with a unique look.

Have a nice WE

You can get more speed if you put an exaust cone, I made one of cardboard. in my plane the end diameter was 53mm. You can download a cone editor in

exit cone

Thank your tips,

Here is mine. It is made with offset plate of 0,2 mm. The exit is 53 mm.
The first test is....impressive. More speed for the same flying time.

Have a nice day and greats from Belgium

Ah just the thread I was looking for...I'm thinking of picking one of these HE-162's up and throwing a HTX 3790 24mm motor into a 64mm fan and using 3S 2200's with a 30A ESC....good combo or should I look for something different?

I'll read thru the thread to see what others are using as well.

nice idea of combo but try directly with a 40 A esc. With the 30 A, it might be just just for the consuption of your combo.

Use a 40A instead of the 30A? Is the stock fan worth keeping by the way and will a 24mm motor drop in?

I recently bought this He-162 model at the Dortmund Modeling Fair (in Germny) but without landing gear. I plan to install removable landing gear myself. Overall this doesn't look like a tough job, but I would like to know the diameter of the landing gear wire that comes with the standard kit—2mm, 2.1mm or 2.5mm?

I would truly like to thank the participants in this thread for their comments and modification input. Everything has been quite helpful, particularly the addition of a carbon fiber rod in the tail boom and the EDF exhaust cone extension. For the extension I'm considering using a small or medium size Starbucks plastic cup. I also have a the Mirage 2000 kit of similar, if not the same, manufacturing and construction as the Salamander, and I'm happy with that model's performance; the motor/fan provided with the Salamander appears identical to the Mirage's, which is perfectly adequate for me.

I haven't flown my yet—that won't happen until August—but I will certainly be observant of the nose dropping in the turns, as well as keeping the model in close during the early flights.

Hey Guys

Just a quick note to let you guys know the 162 review is nearly done. Today I got some stills, and badly needed video of the model in it's updated form. Courtesy of The Don this thing hustles now!

I finally maidened mine this last weekend.
It was a little overcast and I have to say
the flight was not much fun.

With the stubby wings it seemed plenty fast for these
old eyes. Then as I turned base leg for landing I suddenly
lost power. I was not high enough to convert altitude
to speed and it fell to the ground like a rock.

I only had about three minutes of flight but I suppose
it could have cut out because of low battery voltage.
It did start again after I picked it up.

Read for another go, hand launch this time. Took out the exhaust cone for more acceleration.
