The Black Angel does look pretty sweet. The 480 is on the site when I visited it.

CopterX 480

I have the CopterX 480 which I bought in the classified ads of another forum sometime ago.

It takes the 350mm blades.
I have posted some photos and also to show the relative size compared to a Trex 450.

The CNC head and tail are the same as the ones used for the CopterX 450. However, the main shaft is longer to accomodate the lower bearing.

I have also replaced the landing gear with a spare I got from a Hurricane 550.

I have fitted the heli with a lower KV motor and I'm using a 4S setup. I am not a 3D flyer but I find the heli stable and nice for my sport flying.

CopterX 500 is out: http://www.ehirobo.com/shop/product_...oducts_id=6193

But...

It's seems to have less bearing in the rotor head than the TRex, and, as I own a CopterX200, I can say that within 40 flights, some metal/metal movements became loose and sweetless (don't know if i can say sweetless in english, I'm french )..

Arriving in these price, why not looking at Hirobo, JR, Thunder Tiger, etc... who use to build nitro heli, and starting to be interested in the elecric class helis...

Any more info on the 500? it looks like a direct clone which is a good thing.
the Airframe price is a couple hundred less than a Trex which is a good thing..
The CX200 was notoriously a sub par performer but the 450 is a fantastic bird except for some minor hardware issues.

I'm very interested in more CX500 info.

Edit.. ok it may not be that big of a savings over the T500. that $288.00 does not include motor or ESC.

So add that up and the real Trex500 kit becomes much more attractive.

Dear USNAviationjay:

Consider the CopterX CX500 have complete aluninum alloy rotor head, tail gear box, tail rotor and tail boom mount. If you add all these features up the CopterX will become very attractive.

Best regards,

What size batterys does the 500 take?

Dear Nitrosharkiii:

6S, 5S, 4S or you can used 2 3S in series if you have them from the 450. For 6S we recommand 2200mAh due to the size.

Thank you!

KY,
The previous CX450s were a much bigger savings over the original version of the Align 450 unfortunately with the pricepoint for a bare airframe at $288 with no motor/esc/ and really subpar blades it just doesnt add up to as good as a deal as the original version of Aligns T500.

You can get an entire RTF T500 for 789 bucks from helihobby and they are in the USA and the parts are as easy to get as walking 2 blocks to the local hobby shop.

This RTF combo includes everything but the TX/RX and Batt charger.

and this is with:

- KX017001A T-REX 500 CF Kit Combo (with 425mm Carbon Fiber Blades)
- FUTM0807 Futaba GY401 Gyro Standalone unit (No Servo)
- KX870008A Align 6S1P 22.2V 2600mAh 25C Battery
- FUTM0260 S9650 Mini Digital Servo (Designed for quick 3D tail control)
- HRC32082S Hitec HS-82MG Micro Metal Gear
- HRC32082S Hitec HS-82MG Micro Metal Gear
- HRC32082S Hitec HS-82MG Micro Metal Gear
- WSD1300 Large Deans Ultra Plugs
- WSD1300 Large Deans Ultra Plugs

Or...

the brand new ESP Combo kit that not only comes with ALL the Align version CNC stuff plus the Torque Tube Tail + the ESC/Motor AND the new Align top of the line servos for 620.

now add up $288.. + minimum of $100 for a good motor.. + another $100+ for a good ESC and another $100+ for servos and then another $45 bucks to add the good CF blades. and your Clone kit is now at $633 dollars US to Aligns $620.

which would you choose?

Sorry CX and Ky but you're too high in this case..

I think your motor and ESC prices are too high. The Align motor lists at $91, is available at $80, and isn't that good. Scorpion also has an $80 motor with much more power. Align's ESCs usually aren't anything special either. The RC-Tek 500 series motor is 1000 watts to Align's 800, and is about $60, though you'd need a larger pinion which may be hard to find (I haven't looked). Scorpion's 60A ESC is $80 also.

So, $288 + $80 + $80 + $100 + $45 = $593, for a much better motor and an extra set of blades, compared to Align's $609 (best I could find it). Gyro, tail servo, and radio still required. Still cheaper, though not as screaming a deal as the 450 was.

We can bring it down more by using a Turnigy ESC (save $30).

The black angel looks good.. similar to the one that they sent way back feb08. The heli is quite fast.. more agile than the CPX450V2 or the TREX SEv2.
The head parts of the Black angel are quite simple although is made really well...

The main changes they made is the swashplate. They made place a ring all around the swash plate. kinda new I guess. and they revised the framework making it more of the CPX450 brothers it has.

this is the one that they sent last feb,.

they had no name for it before.. but when it came out it was the CPX black Angel.

For the CPX 480.. I have tested this heli last year.. Its more like a 450 to me with a longer boom. It flew strange and was tail heavy.. The frame work is too thin and its kinda hard to put in the electric parts inside the frame.. The blades were a little longer than the stock 325. If I remember correctly it was around 355mm. Initially they were planning on calling it the CPX500.. but it did not pass the standards of a 500 class heli so they dropped it to a CPX480

here it was when I first sent the 480 heli

the boom is longer than the standard 450 heli but it has the same 12mm diameter

here is the heli in comaprison with the CPX200, CPX450 and the CPX480

and the CPX480 beside the TRex500... there is really a great size difference so its best that they re-branded it to a 480

For the CPX500.. well its similar to the T500 in parts. Almost identical. The only difference it the plastic parts of the T500 like the bottom plate and battery plate are all aluminum on the CPX500. The tail boom block is also aluminum making the heli more sturdy. But there will be some weight difference over the T500 heli. The nice thing about the heli is its interchangeable with the T500 parts.

hope this helps...

Dunno man.. I feel funny every time this subject comes up.
its almost like buying MP3s from those Russian websites.. you know you are supporting something you prolly shouldn't.. but do it anyway as the price is so good.
The CX is nice (if it had a more attractive pricepoint compared to the T500) but it still feels wrong to support them as they basically xerox Aligns plans and use them.

I did use their head and tails on my 450s and liked them.
but the more I think about it I'm not sure if its right.
why should they make money on someone else's design?

I dunno..
kinda grey area I suppose.. here in the USA they would be sued but overseas who knows.
