Amokka Race Plank

Dear Slope friends

Finally I succeded to make a video of the moulded Amokka flying wing. You can find a short description here:
http://www.rcsoaringdigest.com/pdfs/...SD-2008-09.pdf
Sorry about the rather clumsy clipping, but it was the first time I was doing it, but anyway the video shows some of the potentials of planks aiming at a F3F racing.
Here the link to the video:
The Amokka Plank video (6 min 23 sec)

Hi there Peter,

I was wondering when you would have this done !

When Sensibilnick started the Retox I thought that it might have been put on the back burner never to see the light of day

Im down loading the video now & it looks great so far

Any specs span,weight ?

Looks to pull very efficiently, I wonder what we could use that for????

I liked your race turns at min. 5+, very clean, efficient, and homogenious. Because it takes more then a great plank to win a race!
But it SURE HELPS! LOL

Cheers Peter,

Really elegant looking design which looks like it flies as well as it looks.

I've read the article in post1 and have a few questions - do you use a rudder? If not would you use one on the larger version? Also how do find 'crow' braking on a tailless design?

Thanks.

Dear S

no there is no rudder. So far the settings are very simple. Fullspann elevator and fullspan aileron without differential, Crow breaking.
So far I am not planing a rudder on the fullblooded version. This one will have more aspect ratio but also more taper, but I hope this version will behave as Amokka, where there is almost no adverse yaw visible, even when flying very slow.
Crow breaking is a little bit different as from F3X planes. So far I think it breaks a lot, meaning a lot of height is lost, but it does not slow the Amokka down like it does on a F3X plane. So the landing plan is something like this: Come in at good height, crow break with nose down all the time, the speed is not that high, and flare out close to the ground with no flaps. If overshooting seems to become a problem, just open the crow for a short moment and the plane bleeds of speed.
I think it is ok, not as comfortable as on a F3X plane, but I am getting used to it.

Looks and moves really nice Peter, I don't doubt you will deliver a viable F3F design. The zooms at the end of the speed runs showed great energy retention. It would be good to see it fly alongside a conventional 2 metre design, it certainly looked less draggy than many at my slope.
