Not to derail... but consider Trex600 upgraded to 700 gearing/shaft.. mechs make smaller footprint (IE more room inside) but strength is just as good..

Good point. I did this for my 700 Jet Ranger.

Has the OP thought about putting a parachute in the bomb bay doors tied to the inside fuselage? In an emergency, he could deploy the chute and let the plane come to the ground with minor damage (5 pieces instead of 300). You'd be smart to do this before the first flight. It's best to be safe with this sort of machinery.

Perhaps you are not aware that an emergency chute has been certified for some light single engine aircrart. It is likely an actual photo of one test.To call someone a troll may be in style now,but just maybe he was sincere.The suggestion could be implemented on R/C aircraft. .It works on full scale.

Hey all,

Been meaning to post, but I am traveling......

Got a bit more soldering done last week but work has me slammed again.

About a parachute recovery system, I do know a bit about it as a friend had me design a system for a drone he was playing around with 10 years a go.

There are 2 types, BRS ballistic recovery system ( a rocket motor pulls the chute out of its free bag and extends the line in less than .5 seconds. And the DRS, which we all called drag recover system. Basically a drogue chute that is spring activated will pull the free bag out that then pulls the cute and lines to full extension. Also the main chute needs a slider (this is the small chute on your lines that slow the opening depending the the speed of deployment) to maintain a constant G-load will deploying.

Sadly many think that these system are cool, but on a model adds a ton of weight, and stress on the airframe, and most BRS are for loss of control in IFR conditions, and on a model would just never work. And there is just about zero chance to get it work coming out of the bomb bay as the support lines have to live in small groves hidden in the fuse that then is attached to hard points that will support the entire airframe at about 5 G's.

Working my guts out in Dallas for a few days, then back to the shop...

On top of that, you'll need quite a bit of altitude, to give the main chute time to open, and slow down the descend.

However, I remember seeing a model glider a few years ago, being advertised with a chute in its' tail.
