Thank you Dag for letting us derail the thread every now and then... True American spirit and I guess it shows even more during this time of year. As our sons and daughters come home to visit as my own son has come to visit for this holiday. (He is a US Marine, served 2 tours in Iraq) Yesterday, I picked him up from the airport but his baggage didnt make it with him. Just a few minutes ago his baggage was delivered by an employee of the airline that was also a NAM Vet. (My dad was a Nam Vet in the Airforce as well) This man delivered my son's baggage in the middle of the night as if it was just as important as holding the line. Of course its not THAT important but it needed to be done none the less. I felt it was important to thank him for his service in Nam and shook his hand. Saw the smile on his face and then he disappeared into the night, back to his waiting vehicle... Thank you to all vets when and where ever you served. There are those of us that realize what sacrafices you made even if it is just leaving a part of your soul or a part of yourself in another country, it is very much appreciated by those of us that live in here in the good ol US of A and enjoy all the good things that the USA has to offer. YOU military sons and daughters are the USA's bread and butter and make it good for all of us. Thank you!

I'd like to add my voice and thanks, and seasonal best wishes to all of the military personnel, not only from the US, but from ALL of the allied forces, who put their lives on the line, day after day, in Iraq and many other less savoury places than we would choose to venture ourselves.
May God bless and protect all of them. sparks |

In San Jose, CA, you will normally find 85, 87, and 93 octane, (of which, my Chevrolet HHR, will run on the 85, but my wife's Lincoln will only run on the 93.)though at some gas stations, you can buy 100 octane racing fuel, which is not legal for use on the street, and it will also destroy the catalytic converter on your car. And now back to aircraft related subjects (at least on my part) SteveT |

My Range Rover though supercharged will run regular but my fuel economy suffers because I do not get the same power due to timing being retarded by the computer. But when I run premium fuel I get 19mpg on the highway and am all wheel drive. Mike |

And as to your vehicle (and my wife's Lincoln) they ARE designed to run on premium fuel, therefore, yes, if you use a lower grade you will lose horsepower (as you said, the computer will retard the ignition timing [and valve timing if it has variable valve timing] to compensate). this is not the same as taking a car designed to run on lower octane fuel, and putting higher octane fuel in it and expecting to get more horsepower/higher fuel economy...it just won't happen. Of course my HHR already gets 27mph around town, and almost 36 mph on the freeway.... SteveT |
