Sheeesh, this thread has moved in the last day or so....

It is amazing how dumb these oil people are. To stop the leak is easy, but no one wants to think outside the box. If you take a Kevlar Balloon pack it tight like a airbag on a car, then push it down about 500 yards into the well, then set off a couple of nitrogen cartages at let’s say 200PSI, and BAMB! Leaked stopped.
And my wife had an idea to absorb the oil, that I "upgraded" a bit. She had the idea of spreading straw on the water (yes it would take a lot) to attract the oil to it, then use surface nets to pull it all in. My "upgrade" to it, was to use brush shredders (like they feed tree branches through to shred them), mount them on ships and feed straw, wood, tree branches (anything that is a non-pollutant and would float), to again, attract the oil, and then drag it in. Maybe it wouldn't work on the open ocean, but it could certainly be done in near the land.

More of a generic inquiry than a specific prop reference.

I did find with my PZ corsair that my motor mounts were lasting longer with the rubber washers than without.

Dag, the resistor brings no weight at all but it will prevent the flash when plugging in the battery. When you use extra caps the flash will be even naughtier and will damage the plugs.

I like electrics, I truely love the sound of a turbine, but I gotta say the sound of a well tuned piston engine (especially a hotrod radial) really tickles the senses. Ohhhh... yea.....

that's exactly what I was thinking. The left wing dropped a bit and then it started to bank hard to the left. Looks like the pilot saw the slight left bank and tried to correct but just wasn't quick enough to realize what was going on and just kept feeding in left stick.

I think that if it were a stall, you would have seen a much more abrupt bank and more 'snap'.

I'm curious if the builder used a scale airfoil section. The B-24 was not known for being a forgiving airplane to fly due to the wing design.

I'd say his airspeed was not enough for that turn, if the turn was a commanded turn. It takes a minute or two to "get on the step" and really get rolling on a big bird like that one. If an uncommanded turn, his left engine(s) were not pulling hard as the right ones and dragged him into a "drag-induced" left turn. Didn't appear to snap, so prolly his engines not performing at full power. Gosh, think of the time and $$$ invested in that baby!

Looking at it again, his left wing was low from the moment he lifted off. Engines not pulling hard enough on the left. Also, possibly not shown, I didn't see anyone taching those engines! Man, that would be the last thing I checked before taxiing out!

This is mostly idle speculation as we are not sure what happened. I think DAG alluded to something that I have seen countless times and that is reversed ailerons (failed pre-flight check). I'm not sure if this is the case or not but the one thing I will add is that I really doubt that this was a commanded turn to the left since based on the footage the pattern should be to the right as the flight line was to the left.

Either way, that is definitely a lot of $$$ down the proverbial drain
