Hey DAG -
I know you put a lot of thought into making a D model, but what about the B? No jet pods to fabricate, and imho, the red wing tip, tail markings look a lot better than the all metal finish of the later models. It would certainly help with visibility and orientation, although I suppose that's not an issue at this size! Just a thought. |

I really have thought a bunch about the B version, but I just really like the look of the jets, I think it is a guy/want to be stud, thing. Cheers, DAG |

Get The Fans
I have enjoyed following this thread so much and I am sure there are hundreds like me. I think we need to set up a fund to collect money so DAG can get the fans now. It is so much easier to do it now than as a retrofit. I would be pleased to contribute.

All,
Thanks, but I won't take $$$, I really do enjoy all of your support. The manufactures I am working with have given me the best support ever, and have given my some discounts considering the quantity of the equipment used. I plan if I hit my new target weight that in 2010 I will then update the jet nacelles to hold the fans. Don't get me wrong, I had a budget, and I have been watching my $$$ I spend, but I really feel the support I get here is what keeps me going when I hit the big challenges. Thanks all, DAG |

Angelo -Such beautiful shots of the B-36; shows off its gracefulness to me..
Dag - Maybe a little support here from a different perspective would be that adding fans or jets would just be overkill. Oh yeah, maybe I'm just being judgmental and all that but in these days of our(sociatal) excesses showing, it just isn't needed to make this a superb and magnificent achievement in anyone's eyes. Making access to add on later would be a satisfactory alternative if I were faced with the challenge myself. |

Gnats - thanks, researching photos is something I like doing.
I can understand why DAG wants to have the pods, they DO look way cool, they add another level to the plane. On the other hand, they will add weight and drag, and will also make landings a little more difficult, since those pods are pretty close to the wing tips and hang down a ways. And there's the time consideration - Dag, I know you're a bit behind your schedule. I would guess you could save a few days (or more) building time leaving them off. As Gnat says, you could always add hard points for later additions. Again, just my thoughts, it is your project, after all. |

Just wire it up for Model Rocket engines...
You never know when that little *boost* may come in handy. Were the turbines on the full size plane used for take-off assistance? Or what? -Eric |

Angelo -
Yeah, I enjoy the research too and with the B-36 it seems it's story is as interesting as it is big! Dag is really doing it justice! I can see adding the pods, just leaving them vacant for now. As you said, it's Dag's project... Kindof reminds me of the discussion about an on-board sound system and after a little clearer thinking, better resolve seems to come along. Can you imagine the sound of the model props trying to resonate with the sound of a real B-36s pushers (@1200 rpm)? |
