Running my tank today produced a problem.

Its been running fine.
But today, the left rear drive sprocket wheel, that drives the track seems to be stuck. It won't rotate. In a power off condition, the other wheel can be rotated. I did that slowly and carefully to not cause any damage.
But this left one will not rotate and the tank won't go straight. It just pivots like the wheel/track is jammed.

What should I check first? Is this an indicator of something serious?

Thanks,
M

It appears one of the gear boxes is in bad shape. It jammed. When I removed the electric motor, I still couldn't rotate the gears. So I worked them loose. Put it back together, it ran for a 20 seconds or so and locked up again.

I did notice that some of the teeth on one of the gears is pretty damaged. I think I need another left side gear box.

Do they come individually like that?
Where do I get gear boxes? I can find none for the M41A3.

Any lubrication recommended? For example some vaseline? These gears look very dry.

try Tankarmy here in Australia he does a full range of parts. [URL="http://tankarmy.com/heng-long-tank/index.php/116-rc-tank-upgrade-parts-c-50?osCsid=e2abqv3u480g3joiqb0bk20gs0"]http://tankarmy.com/heng-long-tank/index.php/116-rc-tank-upgrade-parts-c-50?osCsid=e2abqv3u480g3joiqb0bk20gs0[/URL
He does gearboxes in pairs but it might pay to get a upgraded set while you have the tank in bits...

I am getting a HL M1A2 shortly that I will be giving some upgrades...cash permitting and a full OZ army camo job.

Cheers Bruce

PS try white lithium grease you can get it in a spray can with the little tube attachment at auto parts stores usually found on the shelf with stuff like WD40 and the like.

White lithium grease. OK

So I bought this tank with the metal tracks and metal gear box. I was warned to not lube the gear box. I don't know why.

Is one metal gear box as good as another? Or are there better ones? If there are better ones, which ones are the best?

I just ran the tank around on the floor and sometimes over things but nothing that would be not scale for a tank to attempt. What sort of action will wear these gear boxes down?

Thanks,

for lube id use Zmaxx its a micro lubricant.. the metal will soak it up will not attract dirt as fast a white lithium does.... just a few drop on things that touch..

OK so its time to buy a gear box for my M41A3.

Where is a good place to buy them in the US?

I look on Ebay and I see all sorts of gearboxes. But they don't specifically say what tank they are for.
I see Heng Long Short Axis metal gear box.
I see Long axis.

Some look nice with anodized parts but I do not know which one to get for the M41A3.
Can someone let me know which metal gearbox will work?

Would this one work?

They are in the US. They have a few parts for this tank but not what I need.
Not sure they will help me for a tank I bought elsewhere.

Nobody tuning into this thread has replaced a gear box on a M41A3?

Did you phone up IMEX and say to them "Which of your gearboxes fits my M41A3?"
