Rubber DUKW Race

Our department has an annual picnic which includes some form of a rubber duck race down a tributary of the Rouge River in Dearborn. This year the rules said "the duck must be in the water at all times". Period.

So what better than a DUKW towing the duck behind? Some tried toy speed boats... but my Traxxas 27 MHz radio over-powered them ("Interference!" they cried, and they were right...). Some tried reeling a duck in with an eighth mile long line... but they were confounded by my superior access to the stream (rubber boots and no fear). Some tried letting Mother Nature just carry them down the stream, but my propeller trounced them in the slack water. But it was close... lots of bushes on the side, and I couldn't see where I was going half the time. And rapids. DUKWs aren't meant for rapids. The ESC is drying out as we speak, but it lasted long enough to make the finish.

Quack.

No body cried "fowl" on you Pat? Sounds just "ducky". What next, rubber baby, DUWKY bumper boats?

Hmm - highly creative interpretation of the "rules". Just like the builder of this Bristol Bay sternpicker. I think this one was tied up in court awhile...

Here's the only action shot anyone captured.

My duck is towed close behind and hidden in the prop wash; we're passing up the last "floater" after being adrift ourselves for a while, with me looking to get through the streamside bushes for a vantage point...
