im starting a build thread on my new BAF 48" yak 54 from DW foamies
http://www.shop.depronwest.com/produ...3&productId=78

im using a park 480, 40amp ESC, 4x Hitec HS-65HB servos, Spektrum AR6100 REC, and a hobby city HXT 1500mah 3-cell battery. i love this plane, i just flew it this morening. it flys like a 3D pilots dream! i think everyone thats into 3D should buy one. here is some pics from the beginning of the build.

DW BAF 48" YAK

Appleflyer,
Nice job on the build photos, plus I just noticed the great design on the cradle holding the YAK.

Keep us posted on where you end up with the CG, we're finding that the spar is a good starting point. That said, you will want to keep the servos as close to the aft side of the wing as possible.

Nice build. Looks very clean.

Oh, and just curious, but why did you put the electronics ontop of the plane?

What is your AUW with this setup. This setup is very similar to mine.

BAF 48" setup

Joe,
Part of the BAF 48" design was to allow the use of all electrical componets from a AcroMaster. The EFlight Park 480 1020KV and a 1500mah 3-cell is enough power to climb out of hover but not with great authority. With his setup the AUW is about 27-28 oz.

The testing was done with a Hacker A30 16M, I'd say it has ballistic power. I've done testing with a Scorpion 3014-18 & 3014-22 using a 2100 3S and the AUW is 30 oz's. This is currently our preferred setup.

Thanks for that information Mike. I was asking not only for my benefit, but for one of my friends also. I have a Scorpion 3008-32, which has a little more power than the Park 480. I would be flying some 3D with it. My friend has a Park 450 setup, but has a Park 480 available to him. He is not flying 3D and would probably be just sport flying with it. He needs something that would be durable, and I think a 9mm Yak would fit the bill for that. And I think on low rates it would be easy enough for him to handle. He was able to handle my 38" Juka last week on low rates anyway. I think the 48" Yak would be a good deal for him if he puts the 480 on it. Thanks again for the info.

Hehe, he's going to want to put more power in that beast eventually.

Should be an excellent 3D trainer, and its size is a plus, because things move slower the bigger they get, or do they...?

Maybe this is the plane that will move as slow as my brain does. If I ever find that maybe I'll be a good pilot!

I just built and flew mine yesterday, Hobby City gears all around. Turnigy plush 40A esc with 35-42D 1000kv motor on 13x4 APC clone props and HXT900 9g servo all around. The servo's a little weak, so used 2 servos for elevator and 2 servos for the rudder. It flys with so much power, I can hover at half stick. It is also much, much, much more stable than the AM. In fact, this is how I wanted my AM to fly but the AM turned out less stable than my extra 300 from efm. Moves are slow and easy to pull off. I scraped the rudder on grass on my maiden flight in 10mph wind. That's how confident I felt flying it. Thanks to TManiaci for the suggestion.

BTW, is there a reason to have the tail servos so far forward? Is this to help with balance? I moved mine all the way to the back so the linkages are shorter, less slop.

I push them up forward to save weight, so that I don't have to use servo extensions

Also, to allow a wide range of CG's, so that I'm not limited to a tail heavy 3D plane.

So, how does she hold knife edge rcboosted?
