no harm no foul.

I hope to get on my Z soon, probably won't happen until after I move next August as I fear it will take me the better part of a year to build it..

Work this weekend was to finish the wing to body fairing which went pretty well. Using hot water to bend the balsa then a heat gun to dry it out made for quick work.

The wing saddle went together pretty straight forward too. The major issue was that the stringers didn't line up but its the bottom of the plane so it doesn't bug me much.

Also, I drilled the holes for the wing bolt blocks a little crooked which made the nylon bolts want to come out at slightly different angles. This meant I had to put the bolt tubes at different angles otherwise it would be hard to unscrew the bolts.

Finally since the plane is pretty much ready to sand I weighed it again and it came out to 6.8 pounds. Lets hope covering doesn't add too much more. I also balanced it on my fingers and the CG is currently .5 inches in front of where it needs to be with the battery almost as far forward as possible. Covering will make it more tail heavy but I hope not too much more tail heavy.

All in all it has come out pretty well so far. I just have to add some of the 1/64th ply around the tail, put some balsa around the cockpit, sand, and cover.

Looking good.

Don't feel too bad about being tail heavy. Very hard to get these planes neutral without some weight. Just the nature of the beast.

Well I decided to put the kitchen scale that my fiancee got for her wedding shower to work to get a more accurate weight. Came out to 7 pounds flat by propping up 2 of the wheels to the approximate height of the scale and putting the scale under the third wheel. Repeat for all wheels.

I cant really do much finishing work until it is warm enough outside to sand. I dont have a place where I can do it indoors.

well i haven't been able to do anything because I cant sand inside. So aside from attaching a few of the small trip pieces around the tail, its ready to sand, cover, and finish.

I wont be able to fly until probably late June anyway because my field box is up in the attic of my dad's house in St. Louis. All of that stuff wont be getting moved up here till I get married in early June.

The balance isnt too bad yet. Its about 1/2 inch in front of where it needs to be and the covering will push it back, just how much is the question. Even at 8 pounds I still think it would be Ok. It certainly shouldnt be anywhere near 13 pounds.

Still been too cold...It probably wont be until May that I do much work on it unless we get a warm dry weekend here. But I've also got to find an apartment by June so that might take up some time too.

don't know about that

Yeah, you are going to be pretty busy in April/May... You'll find the time I'm sure. Don't stress about it, there will be plenty of time to fly.
