Scratch-Build-Off 3 - 1/9 scale P-39 Airacobra
Yow Yow
![]() This will be my design and maybe also the build thread for my 1/9 scale Bell P-39Q Airacobra entry for the third Build Off contest. Airplane specs: Span: 1156mm Lenght: 1022mm 4 channel steering Motor will be a turnigy 35-36B 1300 kv outrunner. http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/s...unner_(Eq:2814) 3s1p 2500mAh Flight Power or Polyquest Lipo pack. Airfoil is a Naca 2412 Construction will be ply and balsa. Similar to the Dewoitine and Macchi that I made. Here are a couple of screenshots. I cleaned up the 3d model a bit. I still got to draw some wing fairings and then I can cut it into parts. I also tried to render it with some markings but my render program is broken....it doesn't give the result I wanted. I like the Duxford Flying Legends paint sheme, but I found a picture of a painting of a Cobra with a shark mouth woch I also like. Does anyone know wich squadron used these markings? Tom |

I looked on Wings Pallette and here. I found several with the shark's mouth. I don't think you'll have too much trouble finding something you like.
Looks like the 39th FG used the mouth a lot. |

Nice,
The white tail, olive green fuselage scheme is actually one of my favourites and I was initially thinking of finishing my P63 like that, but you could do a spectacular finish using aluminium tape. and If I may be a little scale-picky, just to point out that I think you are missing the wing central platform from you drawings ![]() ![]() ![]() cheers |

Hi xterarc
I followed your P-63 thread with great interest. Is it fixed already? Quote:
![]() If I understand you correct you are saying that the wing has a centre section with wingtips on? But isn't that a P-63 feature? It is hard to see on pictures, especially with the Duxford Cobra because the white on the leading edge stops before the fuselage. But I think there isn't one (except for the fuselage and the fillet between the fuselage and wing) Attached are the drawings I made it from. They come from VAR (the russian site) and the other drawing comes from a French site Tom |

I started after diner.
Now 1 hour later, the wing parts are mostly done ![]() T |

And a little bit of work done on the fuselage.
8 fuslage formers it will be. And arround the cockpit 2 more balsa formers for the top only. Now I quit for today. I think I'll go eat an ice cream ![]() Tom |

Hi Tom,
I have attached a drawing for the wing, |

I always thought that the Reno racer Mr. MENNEN would be a great way to finish a P-39

I see what you mean Xterarc.
But that part is almost completely covered by the fairing and in the front there is this opening for the radiator or oil cooler or whatever thingy that needs fresh air. So I don't think you'll really see it as a centre wing panel. Especially not on the model where it would be only 5mm on each side next to the fuselage. I'll leave it as it is I think. Cool Seitz2c I didn't know there was a Reno Cobra. I can't imagine it wins much ![]() Tom Btw; it was a good ice cream ![]() |

Looking great as usual Tom. I'll be following with interest.
