Finishing up the Cover and Paint

Got the last of the cover on, then marked out the trim outlines using drafting tools and a fine tip marker. The color is French Blue Acryl, brushed on in two coats. The red pinstripe was stripped from "Callie Vinyl" stock and applied a piece at a time.

Final Assembly Begins

Once the paint had dried the wing was bolted in place and the vertical and horizintal stabilizers glued in place. The rigging was done with fine Kevlar string.

With the exception of the trim, which is ordered from Callie, about the only thing left is to run in the pushrods, hook up the Rx, and set the C.G. Then once the ballance is established the battery will be mounted accordingly. Looks like it won't be long now.

Finishing Up the Inside Stuff

The Rx is velcroed to a balsa plate in the fuselage, and the battery velcroed to the back side of the firewall, accessed through a hatch on the bottom so the wing won't need to be removed. To get CG I used an 800 2S Lipo from Intellect. After testing it and a 740 mah 2s found the 800 to deliver more wattage at the same amperage - less voltage drop.

And With That, The GeeBee is Finished and Ready To Fly

All up, the model finished at 8.6 oz. with the 800 battery. That puts the wing loading right at 8 oz. / sq. ft. so should be a very well behaved flyer. Am hoping for a maiden tomorrow morning, but the forcast is NOT looking real promising, so might have to wait for a dry calm day and sneak out on the spur of the moment. Will post up the results when it happens.

Pat,

The airplane is looking real sweet! You just keep making airplanes that I have to buy. Are you coming over in November with it?
